The point of a halo product is not to generate buzz within its stratum, but within all the strata of the company's market.

Ups.

SD-DA 100-400 F5,6-6,3 WR. That's being the big and long one.

At the second, the wide aperture tele, can be a mistake. SD-DA 70-300?? F2.8 WR. Maybe 70-200 F2.8.

Anyway, thanks Sergeev for sharing this.

SD-DA? What's that? A new "Standard Definition" coating on a Pentax lens? Yeah, right. The names appears to be made up, and not by people knowing Pentax.

Someone who understand russian can tell something about what this presenter is talking. SD=standard definition coating on a 70-200mm F2.8? don't think so. Maybe is ''Super Definition''

That would be confusing as H*ll.
Besides, a "SD" coating? They just introduced HD, then there's ABC which is even better, but not suitable for the external surfaces. How many coatings should they have?
No, it won't work if it's "Standard Definition" i.e. a lesser coating either, why put that on a 70-"300" f/2.8 when even the 55-300 is now HD?

It makes no sense. Then, there is the 70-"300", and we know it's not that.

He said 300 or 200: 70-200/2,8 or 70-300/2,8.

OK (and by the way, thanks for posting). It can't be 70-300, first because it would be too long for an f/2.8 zoom and second, because on the roadmap it stops at about 200mm. And third, because asahi man said it's a 70-200
Anyway, I'd take those designations with a grain of salt.

...and fourth, because a 70-300 f/2.8 would have a front lens with a diameter bigger than 107mm, which is not the case, by far, of the prototype / mock-up (compare the lens's diameter to the mount's one).

Yes, that's what I meant by "too long" - the 70-300 focal range, it would make for a huge lens. And expensive. And difficult to make. And heavy. And huge

The "entire first year" claim has been stated so many times that it's taken on a life of its own. Has anyone actually done a fact check on that? But does it matter if it's sold out or what the wait is if they are only making five in a day or whatever it may or may not be? Someone please state how many Ricoh are actually making. That's the only meaningful figure.

Ask me again in a decade.
How could one get a 645Z in 3 to 4 weeks if the entire first year of production had been sold out already ???

They increased the production capacity?
The initial production volume was a mere 400 units per month. I'd say when they realized the demand is much higher than expected, they took action instead of continuing on the same pace for an entire year

Factories sell to Dealers. The entire planned production through late December was reportedly ordered by Dealers during the pre-order period.

Reportedly, if a real human wants to buy a 645Z there is a wait at most dealers as backorders are filled and your new (back)order moves up the list.

But you knew that.

If so, it means the 645Z is more successful among dealers (one year of production sold in advance) than among end-customers (4-week backorder)
