I agree, with the new FF coming up, Pentax will have to go back to the classic focal lengths, 24mm 50mm 135mm. Updating the Fa* 24mm with newer coating and round blades should be easy enough. The -F/Fa 135mm are still excellent lenses, better coating for better CA control would make me buy them again. It seems Pentax is putting a big emphasis on their rugged, weather sealed bodies lenses and accessories, they're weatherproofing everything. I think that very soon all their lenses will have WR on them. As for the 50mm category, I'm happy with my Da* 55mm, it should perform well on the new FF.

I also heard rumors that the price point of the new 36 MP FF will be around $2100, but we'll have to wait and see.
I always was thinking the FA*24 was huge, with a very different build than current lenses and also not so sharp. It might need more than just updating the coatings.

One thing is sure for me, I'am waiting for a good 24mm for my APSC, if this is just the FA*24 with round blades and HD coating, I'll not buy it.

The -F/Fa 28mm should still be a good performer on FF, sharp, contrasty, small, quick focusing, I wouldn't want any changes apart from better CA control (HD coating and a dc motor if they can spare it)...

Mmm is the FA the same blue print as the F ?
Checked: no the M/A/F is 7 elements in 7 groups, the FA 'AL' version is 5 elements in 5 groups.

I dunno about the FA. I have the F and it seems adequate though I don't use it much: the focussing rings goes away on its own

February 2015 Roadmap says nothing about new limiteds, but.......:
It's really encouraging to see them plan the "professional" wide zoom for FF,
and still promise the hopefully more compact wide zoom for APS-C.

They've done a great job on the wide zoom for the Q,
with molded aspherical elements and special glasses.
So the bar is set quite high.

If you don't mind the moderately large size and manual focus,
the ZK 25/2.8 will amaze you.

FF, bright and big viewfinder and.. a focussing screen with microprism.
It's all I'd need. And difficult savings.

Not for me!

The microprism was the least favorite feature of my old Spotmatic,
and I was glad to be able to move to a positive wedge when I upgraded to an LX.

My current APS-C DSLRs are easier to focus than the Spotty.

But this is not a 24 and I actually wonder if the performance would be on par with FA31 say just on the sharpness departement.

Out of all my primes (DA15, DA21, DA35 f/2.4, FA77 and an FA50 that I resold) It look like the best performer by far for sharpness/micro contrast is the 77. The FA50 approach it but only past f/4. DA15, DA21 or DA15 are never as sharp.

While I like the focal arround 21-25mm on APSC, I tend to think that the lense that give me the best results overall is still that FA77. I'am a bit affraid that an FA28 would be no better than DA35 f/2.4... Well a little worse actually. And that the old FA*24 would be more like the DA21 than FA31 or FA77.

I'll check that again on the reviews here and on the internet.

Just a guess, but I would assume that Pentax will make Limiteds again, using their HD coatings.
You are correct.
Same basic but different coating and different ED element.
Rear lens is also complete new glass.
Best regards

No lens-engine nor WR ?
They will stand as true glass and metal limiteds.

No clue yet about WR, this may be ok to add this with the "same basics".

When the FF camera gets launched I guess it will be launched together with 2-5 new FF lenses and an ambitious FF lens roadmap for 2016.

He was referring to the DA 200mm f2.8, not the Limiteds

"Pop photo mentioned the DA* 200/2.8 had a new rear element for digital when they reviewed it some time back. Perhaps Pentax might do this also with the FA limiteds - is just a guess. People typically think the above DA* 200/2.8 is exactly the same as the FA 200/2.8 glasswise."

I was browsing through the rangefinder forum when I happened upon this statement. I't seems pure conjecture at this point, but one can hope. Regardless 2015 it's going to be an exciting year for Pentax.

"The FF is coming in 2015, in testing now. There will be a whole new line up of lens to accompany it, including new Limited. My friend is an engineer of Ricoh Japan."

This is not funny anymore. Pentax may want to switch name to "waiting" or "expecteing" quite soon.
