Well, my 16-45 is IMO decentered. I certainly don't like its rendering anymore.
I'm not sure it's worth to repair considering the price it can be sold at.

Although, I'd lean to FF, that lens may be a worthwhile replacement.
My problem is, the wife as a K100D (non super) and can't use SDM/DC lenses.
Otherwise, it'd be a no brainer, if I go FF, she takes that lens and that's it; but she can't use (no she won't focus manually) neither the 17-70 or the 16-85.
Maybe I'll get the Tammy /2.8.

They definitely have SMC coatings, both the smc PENTAX-DA35mmF2.4AL and the smc PENTAX-DA50mmF1.8.

All green-ring lenses have SMC coatings (AFAIK), but not all SMC lenses have green rings.
Indeed. The green ring does not indicate a coating type, but rather the fact that the lens is a DA lens ("made for digital"). Silver ring means "digitally-optimized, but compatible with film". Red means HD coating and is probably a marketing move since Canon's L series lenses have red rings too.

So the ring "normally" indicates the DA/DFA-ness of the lens. Unless the lens has HD coating, in which case the ring indicates that fact.

At first I thought my 16-45 was decentered too, but I noticed that when extended for wider angle the barrel plays a bit and I usually held the lens by the barrel. Now I hold it near the mount and that avoids that play which provoked decentering.

I have never seen people holding the extended part of the lens before... how do you do that? Do you zoom the lens out and then re-position your left hand to the front part of the lens to steady the shot?

Good question. Is anyone out there thinking to get the 16-85mm. I am thinking to get it, I presently use 16-50mm DA* lens as all purpose
I am wondering if the new 16-85 lens would be an upgrade kit lens bundle in the future (much like the 18-135). Hopefully someone will buy the bundle with camera and sell the lens separately, I am thinking.....

Well, the 18-135 reaches f/5.6 pretty fast, around 70-78mm...
It remains to se what the aperture steps are on this one...
On the 18-135, from 69-135mm it is f5.6. I hope it stays at f4.5 further out before it reaches f5.6 like 75-85.

Nope indeed but the 16-45 is very well known for that barrel play.

The DAL 55-300 has a similar issue. Rest the lens near the tip of the extended barrel while shooting = softer shots.

Although I will wait until the jury decides IQ (and the price drops a bit), I am planning to pair this with my DA55-300 as a two-lens travel kit for the K5.

I have the DA18-135 now, and not sure now what role it will then play, if any.

Mine is fine when used in landscape mode, but when I use it in the portrait direction I have to keep a finger on the wobbly barrel so it doesn't "fall down" in order to avoid decentered shots

After reading the the sigma 18-35 review I cant wait for this lens to come out. I really would like something to complement the 50-135 on the wide end. The limited zoom is starting to look tempting for outside work.

I seem to recall that some people were even shimming it with paper to, like your finger, support the barrel.
