They did it this year, and the year before. They can do it next year, too.

I believe this is the first year Ricoh has implied something was coming early next year.

Ricoh until now has said yes, but not yet.

Hoya said probably not.

Pentax Corp never said anything other than studying the market.

But hey, given the 645 lenses situation last year, Imaging Resource might have to point out that it isn't available in NA and OZ even if they do make it.

Pentax showed the MZ-D at Photokina, then thankfully failed to deliver.

At the time it was cancelled Pentax UK issued a statement...

"The cost of manufacturing the prototype SLR 6-megapixel digital camera meant it was not a viable product for our target market. However, we have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in the development of this prototype which will ensure technological innovation in future Pentax digital products."

It just took Pentax 3 more years to release a DSLR.

Contax of course went through with the Contax N. We know how that turned out.

Wasn't that Asahi or had they changed to Pentax Corp by then? And that was more than ten years ago (the Reply specified ten years).

Yes, but they have not actually said "next year", They said "We are working on it". Still, it seems likely that it may well be next year.

Actually, according to Mistral75, they did in fact actually say, 'Next Year.' Just yesterday in fact. Quite bluntly and unequivocally.

Yes they did, at least people from Ricoh Imaging Europe did.

Didn't Pentax/Hoya show off the 645D prototrypes for 4-5 years before it actually went into production?

As far as I can remember, the Japanese Ricoh's bosses always kept to the infos that :
- they did work on a future 35 mm system
- it could be released "depending on economic conditions"

This is the reason why i found the announcements made by european RICOH's representatives btw last september and now, claiming this WILL be for 2015, surprising to say the least.

Indeed they showed the mock-up of a 645 Digital with a 18.6 Mpix CCD sensor from Kodak at the Photo Imaging Expo in March 2005 in Tokyo

then a prototype with the same specifications at PMA in February 2006

then a second prototype with a 31.6 Mpix CCD sensor, from Kodak too, at PMA in February 2007

before actually announcing Pentax 645D in March 2010.

Somebody just make one. It fits in nicely with the Ricoh scheme of things.

I wish Ricoh Pentax was more rumors friendly and would just release some official ducks to lurk around to reveal some detail on what they are doing and whether it is worth to stay with Pentax as well as come to Pentax?

Whatever they are working on I hope will be exciting and hopefully they would give something to both photograhers and videographers, one awesome camera for those who has interest in stills only and one for those who need a tool for both, stills and video.
As a Pentax user, I would like to see Pentax name loved in wider audiences.

Rumour mongering scene is always crazy, especially in November / December, because the next year, which is around the corner, will be "The changing year", "The amazing year", etc.
These particular rumours about K60 and K-L were circling around for 12 months.
Some bits are innovative though, I like that surreal MX touch. Well, any new rumour must have some science fiction elements to make it sound fresh and legitimate.
