Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 'Contemporary' for Pentax to be released 21 Nov

According to the Sigma website in Japan, the new APS-C SIGMA 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM 'Contemporary' lens will be released in Pentax mount on 21 November 2014. (For Pentax optical stabilisation is not included).

The lens reviews well at Lenstip.

Is this the link you meant?

Sigma C 18-200 mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM review - Introduction - Lenstip.com

It's a review of the lens on a Canon mount.

Yes. But it is still useful.

Lenstip don't do reviews for the same lens on different mounts. However the Canon lens is optically identical to the Pentax one.

BandH and the Sigma website have the 18-300mm lens listed instead of the 18-200mm lens for Pentax. Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM Contemporary Lens 886109

Was looking for something for travel so I can't wait to hear if it is worth the price.

Interesting that they have it listed for pre-order. It's good news that it will be available for Pentax. Haven't seen any tests or reviews for that lens yet.

B&H already have the new 18-200 listed for Canon and Nikon, and stock the older 18-200 for Pentax too. It probably won't be long now before the 18-200 C finds its way from Japan to New York.

What does "Contemporary" mean in the Sigma line? Is it a less expensive line than the "Art" lenses?

The latest Sigma lenses are split among three lines: Contemporary, Art and Sport. Sport is pretty self-explanatory, Art is dedicated to high-end non-Sport lenses and Contemporary to entry level.

I'm trying to look for the best solution for a single "travel" lens for hiking. anything between 18-200 to 18-300mm on my K3 would be great but I'm getting confused about their performance. The 18-300mm from Sigma is due for release in Australia early 2015 and the glass and coatihgs in it sound good. However, thinking that 18-200mm would satisfy my needs, I would have expected the optical results would be better - but the reviews are varied. Any recommendations ... are these lenses available as 'Art' lenses with better performance?

I don't think so. Anyway, an 'Art' 18-200 would probably be a constant f4, and weigh 1.5kg.

Just get the 18-200, or an earlier lens like the Sigma 18-250 HSM OS, and update Lightroom or DxO to make sure they have lens profiles for whatever lens you choose.
