Will we see K20D super?

Will we see K20D super?
Some of us want to see the new camera with 5 fps, 1/8000, flash sync 1/250 and new AF system.
I think that we won't see such camera from Pentax.
I think that Pentax will launch K20D super with new burst mode and it's all.
It could be 5-6 fps in 8-10 Mp jpeg with bigger buffer. Pseudo-reportage camera.

Ok. You just LOVE speculating.

Yes Pentax WILL produce such a camera sooner or later. It could be the K20D Super, or the K2D, or the K30D. What of it?

I think that we never see real higher fps and 1/8000 in Pentax cameras.

IMO to attain over 3fps besides the mechanical parts (shutter) they must change all the electronics inside (I don't think Prime can process 5 fps @ 14,6 MP and also requires a much bigger buffer). Upgrade the AF system too and all it remains is the case and the sensor (maybe tweak on that too). That kind of change renders imposible just a "super" denomination. It is basically another camera much more than K20D was to K10D.

A "K20D Super" IMO would be a K20D with:

- new AF system - prototype for the next gen of Pentax cameras;
- 3" LCD hidef Nikon and Sony style;
- tweaks on sensor - sort of version 2.

I'd like the idea of a K20D with 5 fps for about 10 frames. One wouldn't usually need more than 2 seconds of burst. If you do, you probably are a very trigger-happy photographer.

By the way - my K100D could THEORETICALLY do 5 fps. The Sony sensor is capable of doing 5 fps in dual channel mode.

What I wonder is.. if the PZ-1p could do 5 fps, why didn't they just take the shutter design from the PZ film camera and stick it into the K20D? Shutter design counts just as much. The MZ-S couldn't do more than 2.5 fps.

Yanno... I wouldn't mind if Hoya sold the photo division to Samsung. The Koreans have a lot more cash to give to Pentax for their R&D and manufacture.

Maybe open up a few more assembly lines for lenses and bodies...

ONLY if they keep the Pentax name!

I owned a PZ1p and the frame rate was only 4fps. Pentax has not had a 5fps camera since the LX or the MX with motor drive attachment. Maybe I am wrong but I beleive that if Pentax had taken the time to make the K20d with improved af and 5 to 6 fps (like all the competition) they would have sold more than double what they have already! I keep hopeing.

Some of us wouldn't want to pay for these things. Flash synch I understand (although I rarely use flash) 5+fps I don't really don't have any practical need for (motordrives were pro accessories for specialist applications), and 1/8000 sec I have zero use for.
Fine if they implement these with zero cost or a third level 'pro' body, but not by bumping the cost of the Kx0D series...

You also have to agree that big numbers sell. The more fps and megapixels a camera has, the better it attracts potential buyers.

Yes I know the KxxD series is not aimed towards amateurs/beginners, but flagships have to impress from every point of view.

That being said, I can't wait to see a KxD, with built-in vertical grip and better performance.

Oh, I agree big numbers sell (except when they have a /$ sign in front of them), but they don't impress me if I don't need them! Hence, in an ideal world, I would prefer to see a third level of body as the flagship, but I fully appreciate that Pentax have to cut their cloth accordingly. As ever in the N/R forum, we are talking hypotheticals!

Even Olympus has E-3 camera. Only Pentax has no such machine. No new AF system for 5 1/2 years.

To take the camera to higher than the existing 3fps will probably need a new sensor with faster readout capability as well as a different processor system, shutter, mirror etc., etc., etc.

I believe that the next iteration upwards from Pentax will be a completely new body design with totally new innards. It will be (or already is?) a major project for them and they will have to make it sooner rather than later just to stay in the game. I don't believe thay can sit on the fence much longer, even though most users will never use or need the improvements in frame rate, but improved fast tracking low light AF is an increasing must.

I won't even comment on the possibility of a larger sensor. That, I'm sure, is in the mix with the new high end body development.

When it will appear is anyones guess, I suspect they may make a pre-announcement at either Photokina or probably PMA next year just to keep the brand in peoples minds and the LBA hunger moving forward. I suspect that Pentax will also make a big play on new lens releases until then.

What I believe will surely happen soon, will be a basic entry point DSLR, and that it, and the K200D, will soon sport a Samsung CMOS sensor with live view in both models with improved performance tweaks on the K20D design to bring the LV AF performance into line with the competition.

I know that us traditionalists see LV as somewhat of a gimmick, but I believe that it is an essential marketing requirement as well as SR. All the manufacturers are aiming at the transistion from P&S users into DSLR users.

I wouldn't be surprised to see manufacturers dropping the mirror and prisms in future models! They did it with viewfinders to cheapen the products, I can see the same happening with DSLR's as it's a big cost area.

The next 2 years will be interesting, to say the least!

Nooooooooo! I don't want the mirror box to disappear! That would spell the end of the SLR!

I want my shutter loud!

I believe the writing is on the wall, especially for entry point models. Price pressure rules!

Plus, I've seen several people try to use a DSLR like a P&S live view camera (I'm sure many have!), they find it kinda funny that you have to squint through a viewfinder! It's what they want, and they're the people the makers are trying to woo!

I will bet that it will happen within 2 years. June 2010! You can shoot me down then!
