645z earns Luminous Landscape Camera of the Year 2014 Accolade

Last week it was the lads at Camera Store TV awarding the 645z their 2nd best camera of the year award.

This week it is Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape putting the 645z as the first mention in the Luminous Landscape Camera of the Year 2014 lists.

It seems that the 645z is being well recognised for what it brings to the market, and the price point it sits at.

Michael mentions Pentax adding 'secret sauce' that makes their implementation of the Sony sensor better (in his opinion) than the Phase One or Hasselblad backs - certainly in terms of high ISO imagery.

Well done those Pentax Engineers!

No doubt - 645z is one of the best cameras Pentax ever made.

Well deserved.

Now Pentax, pls make a 'mini-645Z', one format size down the ladder.

Congratulations Pentax!

No mean feat, Pentax gaining an award from LL, no less - and that for a product which lies in the high-end category of gear. Bravo!

Yes, congratulations.
It is well known that Pentax's engineers do have the magic power to take the best out of the SONY sensors !

It's interesting how Michael Reichmann had a change of heart about the 645Z... in his initial overview, he thought it was too much camera and it wasn't really needed when you have the D810 that is "good enough" for the 645Z's intents and purposes... (not his exact words, but I'm summarizing his initial impression). Then in the actual review, he acknowledged that he had liked it much more than he initially thought he did.
Good on him for recognizing how the product grew on him, and also good on Pentax for creating a professional tool that has so much depth to it!

Indeed, indeed.

His initial review bordered on ridiculous, essentially blaming the 645Z for being too easy to use and hence taking away the slow down effect that comes with traditional MF cameras. There were more such amusing points and to me his change of heart just shows how unreliable his style of reviewing is.

I'm not saying that no one is allowed to make mistakes and I give him credit for correcting his mistake instead of insisting on a first improper opinion, but nevertheless his "gut feeling" and subjective over objective approach to reviewing let him down on this one and I'm convinced it wasn't the first time.

I'd happily trade the money for a smile on my face for that year
