This is exactly on point. I've been thinking about getting a K3 (I already have a K30, K-01, K20D and a Nikon D7000).

Say a K3ii comes out with top shelf predictive AF.C, a tilty-shifty screen and even better sensor performance, would I be willing to spend $500 or $600 over what the K3 is now for that? I don't know, I'm inclined to say no. But, it would be tempting since that is what I am hoping for.
I am thinking the same here... I don't need tilt screen, better AF.C or other bells-n-whistles for additional price. Unless, one expects the price of new k-3 could still go lower (lower than entry level camera) - in that case, "wait" meaning to see the price would drop even further.

So this is what Nikon is coming with the D7200 .. ( probably they will announce at CES )

Perhaps we can expect the same ( or almost ) with a K3ii ... but is it worth it to upgrade for existing K3 users??

nikonrumors.com claims something like:

Here are the rumored Nikon D7200 specifications:

New 24MP APS-C sensor
Nikon D750 styled body with a tilting screen
Expeed 4 processor
MultiCAM 3500DX2 autofocus system
51 AF points
Built-in Wi-Fi
6fps
Buffer: 16 RAW+JPG
Video: 1080p @60 and 720p @120 (not sure about 4k)
Video aperture will be adjustable during live view
Expected announcement in the first few months of 2015

If is a FF i will buy it for sure.. but another APS-C with some "minor" upgrades mmmmmm no thanks

Preparing myself to be disappointed. Once again. Then again, I'm more a m43 shooter nowadays anyways.

Everyone is doing it nowadays.

But if I was a current D7100 owner, D7200 doesn't look like much of an upgrade.

If a K-3 II is the same as the upgrade from K-5 to K-5 II, it will be all about tuning and improvements that aren't really designed to entice existing users to upgrade, but to keep the camera fresh and competitive. In the case of a K-3 II, competitive against cameras like the D7200.

It's impressive how a m43 shooter can be disappointed with Pentax

I don't think it did... in my case, I paid the most for my k-5 and the least for my k-3 (all after 1st year of introduction); well, part of the reasons is perhaps, I become a little smarter when shopping for camera in my CBA quest.

Maybe you didn't notice, but the K-3 already has a LED on the grip.

According to PentaxPriceWatch, the K-5II was down to $800, the K-5IIs around $1000.

Well I jumped in and bought a K3 at the weekend (in the UK the price has dropped to £775 body only with a £70 rebate off that so around £700 which seemed like a sensible amount of money for a significant upgrade from the K5 I already had. In the end I decided that the move to a full frame is going to cost me around £2500 plus because I will need a new high quality and fast standard zoom and probably a wide zoom and a grip plus a body that will doubtless cost £1500-£2000 so it will be a significant upgrade with a £3000 cost compared to a less significant upgrade with a £1000 cost (K3 body, flu card, grip). I have noticed I generally move in on an upgrade when stuff has been out for a year or so and has dropped in price, indeed I bought the K5 when already discontinued.

If I had the money I would for sure buy the latest and greatest but in my view upgrading a year or two into the lifecycle of a product is more cost effective. The K3 is a huge upgrade in focus performance over the K5 (which was my main complaint about the K5) and in truth that's the main reason I decided to upgrade.

I will be very curious to see what's coming, but even if it's a K3 ii it won't be as cheap as the K3 is now, hence my reticence to move. I did enquire at SRS Microsystems where I bought the K3 as to what was coming down the pipe and the guy said to me he genuinely didn't know although he admitted sometimes they do know and just can't say but he said that wasn't the case on this occasion he really hadn't been briefed on anything. His take on it was that to launcha full frame will require a helluva lot more full frame compatible lenses. I was diappointed the 16-85 wasn't full frame compatible because that would have been an indication of an impending FF launch.

There is not much room for improvements for the K3... except maybe this new backlit APC-C sensor that allows one stop improvement...
