Went from

Went from - K3 , K5iis , K50 , K500 to

K3 - K50 (?) ....

K3ii and a 24mp replacement for the K50 ( maybe K524 )
Would that mean the K3 takes the place of the K5iis ? , and what replaces the K500 if anything ?
Maybe the K50 replaces the K500 ?

ATM the Pentax line up is a little light weight .. 2 More months to wait ? Especially giving away even more market share leading to Christmas ..
Very bold of Ricoh ! To pass on stocking stuffers ...

Im not sure who is running the company ! Or how long they are going to be in charge , but a very very bold ending to 2014 .
Perhaps an interesting beginning for 2015 , perhaps not !

I think with k-5IIs now retired and k-50 showing age we will see a replacement in the middle, 20mp sensor as on K-S1 but with more traditional appearance, WR, k-3 style controls. We might also see a k-3II refresh with minor changes, modifications and improvements. Essentially a k-3 with newest firmware, a few tweaks in the hardware and a new name plate. I think it is too soon for FF. I can't believe I just said that.

What I would like to see is a couple new FF compatible lenses. I think they would have to formally announce they have a FF in the works for release at a later date and start pushing out the glass. What would work (for a lot of my shooting) would be 20-70 f/4. Or 24-70 f/2.8. Either would be useful on FF but still attractive to APS-C users. I'm talking * glass not another consumer zoom. I had high hopes for the 16-85 back when it was supposedly DA* and f/4 but the actual specs do not offer me anything I do not already have. And yes, I know 24-70 ish is available from Tamron/Sigma but I have all Pentax glass and would like to keep it that way.

There's always something better around the corner, but the early adopters will pay a lot for having the latest.

I think Feb will be mid range a new k60, after all the k50 is a re-heated k30. I suspect the k60 would be a ks1 in a traditional body. I think the k3 will be tweaked and improved.

Meanwhile they'll be an announcment about ff, but nothing to see at the time.

I don't see why Pentax would need to lower K-3 pricing that much to prepare for an FF offer unless the FF offer is very budget oriented, which is very hard to believe.

IMO there's a K-3 mk2 coming and it is about time indeed
makes sense....

I'd prefer it if they focussed on a significant improvement of the K50 (which came out as the pretty much identical K30 in 2012), development of the mythical FF and development of more lenses. If after that they still have resources left for a K3 Mk II, so be it.

That's what I'm hoping for.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Pentax is doomed...DOOMED!!! Along with Apple...

Actually, I think Pentax may be the next Apple of the photographic world.

Cheers,
Cameron
Not a good analogy. Apple didn't really take off until they introduced the iPod. And the iPod didn't really take off until the iTunes store...

So Apple became a huge success by transforming itself from a computer company to a consumer electronics company that also sold computers. There is no way for Pentax to transform itself that way, unless they come up with a replacement for the iPhone...

He's a master seller for sure!
He knows he can sell the K-3 to almost everybody at those prices, and knowing you're a die-hard fan he probably reasoned: "wait, if he buys the K-3, then there's gonna be one less people buying the K-watever... nonono... he's gonna buy the next model, I'll make sure of that!!!"

And--as we all know--that means there's absolutely no possibility for any leak, whatsovever.

I am not sure if you were aware that inside Pentax community, the wait is eternal.
Same stories people have heard and re-iterated since 2004.
But thank you repeating Pentax community's creed.

Also, it is highly improper for a respectable manufacturer to reduce the price of its flagship product so sharply, and barely one year after its introduction. The original Q, the K-01, K-S1, tele lens, now K-3 — all sharply reduced in price not long after introduction.

It is an irresponsible act that destroys any proposed value the brand stands for. So having that in mind, what is the value of any new "flagship" if it sinks at the bottom of ocean after a few shots?
