I know what you mean .
By small, I was referring as time wise compared with developing a whole application. Obviously small in this case is not 10 minutes ... but is not 5 years either, let's be honest now .

It was tethering and the Apple app (and negotiating with Apple) that took the time (per convo. with James Malcolm and the Q Users Group April, 2013). Apple is apparently a total PITA.

And please, let's not argue about why we didn't have something sooner, now that we have it.*

I wasn't arguing, I was just making conversation.
And I'm not complaining either, I'm actually happy they finally did this... I'm just baffled it took this long. That's all .

So do you guys think Pentax will implement a form of power zoom that automatically collapses a lens to its smallest size when the camera is turned off? Looks like a handy feature, but since I mostly use primes, I see this is as just another piece of tech that can fail

If that is an articulated display, that is very exciting! Overall the camera looks great, has the sleek modern texture on the body, like the K-S1. And then it has nice texture where the hand closes on the body. Good stuff

I think they should bring back power zoom in it's entirety, and add some new features to it.

There is a product development model in which a new feature or technology you don't already own / haven't self-developed is introduced in steps:

1. License the basic technology (Flucard for Pentax - Eye-Fi Menu integration)
2. Learn and develop while implementing the licensed technology
3. Implement the licensed technology on 'test bed', secondary platforms (Q, Q7, MX-1)
4. Implement self-developed technology on a 'test-bed' platform (Wi-Fi on WG-30)
5. Implement nearly finalized technology on a major product (K-xx)
6. Continue improving future implementations of technology

If you look back at things we've asked for (Hinged LCD - MX-1, 645z - K-xx; Wi-Fi; find your own) you'll find this pattern recurring since Ricoh took over. IMHO it reflects the necessity to spread limited resources across a rich panoply of products and platforms, staying relevant while growing revenue and is part of the long term Plan to make Pentax one of the market leaders over the next 5 years.

The same type of development is happening at Ricoh Imaging America, but it is harder to see that since there aren't physical products to show in display cases.

WiFi is virtually ubiquitous, not a new feature or technology.

According to Snellen Chart if you have;
Vision 20/200 you can see the bugs (use your kit lens)
20/20 you can see small bugs (use your 1:2 macro A50mm f2.8)
20/2 (off chrat) you can see micro bugs ( use your old (K/M42) microscope adapter)

Yes, power zoom is useful, but you need a zoom motor in the lens. Quickly put it in the new 70-200/2,8.

Ricoh does have WiFi capable printers... so I'm sure is not that new to them...
I know there are different departments inside that corporation, but still, I imagine there is some sort of overlapping knowledge that can be shared between their departments.
