Yes, AF-S DX Nikkor 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II and the newly announced (this morning) AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II.

They are less compact than the Pentax lens seems to be: to retract them reduces their length by around 1.5-2 cm only.
Thanks! I'm not that aware about the products of other brands. (Especially not about cheap kit lenses).

I'm sure that the Nikon is still relatively long thanks to the VR mechanism inside it. Another plus for Pentax to have in-body SR.

Is this what passes for a 'new' product announcement these days? Another generic camera? Why bother?

the design is nice, I really like the textures of this cam, lenses sound boring, but I am no expert here...
But what is really exciting is articulating screen as it really seems to be articulating, not a flip out. So if it is WR body, that is going to be really exciting.
A mic input? now that is also very exciting, it is almost like Ricoh Pentax is finally hearing the critiques. The only thing missing here is HDMI out, but it is only one angle of the cam....
Buttons with leds are nice, good thinking there.

Hopefully the secs will also be exciting for this and possibly other cameras that will come.
Would be great to see something with video in mind from Ricoh Pentax cause I wouldn;t like to jumpship... but articulating screen, mic input, a mysterious button on top which might be a dedicated movie record button look promising. At least it is a step in the right direction. it is really interesting what will K3 successor be like, if the entry level DSLR got mic in and articulating screen, there got to be something really exciting about K3 successor.

The DSLR looks like a pretty thorough redesign, not just a K-30 to K-50 style rehash. I like what I see so far. It looks like the enthusiast counterpart to the K-S1, which is basically what Ricoh indicated to Pentax Forums at Photokina, and why I could never understand the animosity towards that camera.

The collapsible zoom is really a surprise. On a DPR thread asahiman, who may or may not have an inside line on Pentax products, has said it has a DC motor in it. This would be perfect on my K-01.

How many newcomers were put off by the "large", noisy Pentax kit lens?
It really makes sense, and it's a part of The Plan.

Not quite the same, I know, but it seems to be a trend:

It's the new Voigtlander Heliar 40mm f2.8

Because people resented a colorful nontraditionally styled DSLR that wasn't launched at $399? Your guess is as good as mine...

The left hand side of that Pentax body is really, really small. The body looks like an extension of the Pentax corporate concept of "we make small-form cameras." It's little more than a lens with a right-hand grip attached.

Then get the 58mm f/2.4 Takumar. That's a true Heliar (and on top of that it's also the fastest one ever made for SLR's)

Still happy with my K3. In fact my K5 is getting neglected some now. If Pentax releases a new high end body that gives me more DR the K5 may become a candidate for an Ha conversion for astrophotography.

Personally, I never found to be a big difference between 2.4 and 2.8.
Plus, the Takumar is nowhere near as sexy looking as that Voigtlander... and on the A7... I bet it looks even better on that A7II (we need a drooling emoticon).
