I would say that the best way to get rid of the screw-driven AF on entry-level bodies is to first offer kit zooms with built-in AF motor.

Interesting observation. If they did also DA35/2.4 & DA50/1.8 they're covered pretty good on the low end.

In the same line of thinking: the upcoming FF model SHOULD have the M-series diaphragm simulator built into the body. So that the body not only accepts all K-mount lenses ever made (apart from those darn Rikenon-P's) but light metering will also be fully functional (as on the first K-series film cameras) when using them.

A diaphragm simulator would be nice... But a simple firmware change would also help to use M-Lenses and thats with all existing DLSRs, expecially with the K-01...

Nikon doesn't have to because all AI(-s) lenses from 1977 on work great on the more expensive bodies, WITH automatic light metering in A mode. Pentax... doesn't unless you call the old Spotmatic style of pre-shot lightmetering (with the diaphragm closed) via the green button "automatic". I hate it because of the inherent problems (over- or underexposure).

Really though, I can't think of any reason the shutter button and green button couldn't be combined into one action.

I'd rather have a proper automatic light metering

Just add a costumer settings, that say:
1. use pre-shot lightmetering (Current solution with the diaphragm closed and green button)
2. use working lightmetering (Doens't pressure the aperture lever, darker view, but no green button needed)

(Sorry don't know the english words for "Offenblendenmessung" and "Arbeitsblendenmessung")

Not exactly the same line of thinking. The K/M lens series was replaced by the A series in 1983; OTOH the current lens lineup still has quite a few screw drive lenses, last of which were announced in 2013 (not officially FF-compatible, though).

Looking at the 18-50 the filter size has returned to the old universal Pentax size of 58mm and the front element looks large in comparison to the 18-55 I wonder is it full frame !!!!!, would work nice on FF and apsc, the fact its only DC drive worries me as this may indicate a SDM/DC only flag ship body.

No way a full frame lens, it would be WAYYY larger than a vanilla kit lens, let alone that one.

Looks like a very nice little package so far. And if it will be priced properly and advertised, I'm sure it should sell well.
Now all we need is to know the camera's specs and a picture from the back... how hard is it to take one?

It's possible that is all it means but there are lenses with plastic mounts that are DA lenses, the DA50 and DA35. The two things that are consistently true of the DAL lenses are (1) they are only available as part of a kit, not as standalone products and (2) they are cheaper versions of lenses that also exist with a plastic mount and quick shift. That's why I think there is a chance there will be two versions of this lens. I hope that having DC will also mean that it has quick shift.

'L' in DA L is for 'Light' whilst 'AL' is for 'Aspheric Lens'.
