I don't think screw drive AF will ever disappear. That would upset way too many people who own FA Limited lenses. That crowd wouldn't upgrade to a body without screw drive AF and I think that's a pretty significantly sized crowd. Besides, then Ricoh would have to update those lenses and that's no small feat.

I tend to agree with you this is the same way in which Nikon currently provides backward compatibility. Cheap Nikon cameras are not backward compatible whereas their more expensive cameras are.

So does WiFi just allow for file transfer from the camera to a device such as a computer or tablet or does it offer more features including full tethering?

Agreed but in a small way Ricoh/Pentax is doing this as they don't support manual exposure bar stop-down metering via DOF preivew on the lower end models.

That's still better than Nikon. Nikon doesn't support metering at all on with non-CPU lenses with the 3xxx/5xxx series. Not that you would want to manually focus a lens with their crappy little viewfinders anyway.

I doubt that information has been released yet. The official press release for the show states: "*Note: Model names, designs, specifications, and launch schedules are all tentative and subject to change without notice". You have to remember these are prototypes.

Usually those are the watches that are used in combo with your phone and such so I think you are safe in that regard... unless you are the kind of person that needs to have everything that is "new and hip like" when it comes to tech stuff.

What I am baffled by is that implementing this is fairly cheap and easy... yet Pentax decided not to implement this up until now... :/
