What's wrong with that? I can put a Flu-Card into my K10D and have some Wi-Fi capability. How else could it be done? Some USB dongle that uses the tethering capabilities of the K10D? What about cameras that don't have tethering? With the cover open there goes the WR. So what if the Wi-Fi capability goes when I change the memory card if the camera never had it in the first place.

By putting Wi-Fi on the storage card you can have a universal lowest common denominator function of being able to transfer files to another Wi-Fi device and not have to worry about what brand and model camera the card is being used in.
No one ever needed Ricoh to deliver that functionality (wireless file transfer) as it already existed with EyeFi cards and equivalents. The only reason for Ricoh to develop the FLU Card option was for remote control.

I think Not a Number hit the nail on the head. There is a market for add-on WiFi capability. It's a retrofit market. People with older cameras can benefit from this. However, as more and more new cameras get built-in WiFi and people with older cameras upgrade to newer models with this functionality the retrofit market will decrease to the point where it is no longer worth the effort to produce the product.

The memory card is an ingenious way for a third party like Eye-Fi to retrofit old cameras with Wi-Fi, but is a bit of a hack. Ricoh has control of the whole camera design, so they can integrate it more closely into the camera, including putting the antenna in the best location for reception.

I suppose you could have a separate internal expansion slot for Wi-Fi, but that would probably be more expensive than just including the chip and antenna.

Wi-Fi can do a lot more than just transfer files. I want to be able to use the memory cards I already have without sacrificing Wi-Fi. Flu card stops you from doing that.

In any case, it looks like a moot point now. The new camera seems to have it integrated.

Another point is that the flu cards are way behind in terms of both storage and speeds compared to normal cards. Maximum capacity is 16gb SDHC card. I'm sure Ricoh doesn't want to rely on a third-party for a feature that has become standard across the range of cameras.

Exactly. I will never buy a camera without Wifi again, my k-5 is the old dumb brick of a phone and the Sony a7 I want is a smartphone. This guy (Rambo) has also stated that fa 43 is an average lens. Will not trust anything he says after that.

What is the logo printed in the grip rubber? Seen it somewhere before.
To me (and other senior norwegians) it looks like the good old NOROL logo, wich Statoil put on their gas stations in Norway in the 70's and 80's:

NFC - Nearfield Communication.
Near field communication - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I use WiFi with my Olympus E-M1 way more than I thought I would when I bought it. Remote shooting makes family portraits a breeze and file transfer (albeit JPEG only) is a real boon. On my most recent holiday I was able to upload 200+ shots via my tablet to my Dropbox account this way.

I was never interested in the Flucard, it always seemed like a gap filler to me.

I used to think the implementation of Live View was pointless, now I wouldn't be without it.

I much prefer the look of Ricoh's display at this event. The white look they had before seemed very corporate and bland.

Nice looking camera, Way better than KS-1.

Wi-Fi and NFC is the plus I've been waiting to see in a Pentax body (although I'll skyp it and wait for the next flagship). Don't mind for the articulated LCD though.

The new 18-50 lens seens nice. Hope the quality is on par with the old 18-55, no stellar but not bad.

Well done Ricoh!

But no further info about the two new telephoto lenses. Saaaaaaaad......

Ricoh want to keep us all connected to the photo news sites. Anyway, giving us a little information today, another new after several weeks, is better than the total and very long silence they used before.

Now, I'm waiting for another image with some more dots, about ''Rummors are sometimes true''

So, FF will have WiFi/NFC+Articulated screen+Collapsable zoom kit lens (not this one). Very nice, indeed.
