I would expect the introduction of the K-50 successor we saw at CES, an updated GR and more news about FF plans.

glad the discussion is back to Pentax. Seems Ricoh is really tight-lipped on the upcoming products.

These days Samsung and the other Android manufacturers outsell Apple by three or four to one.
When was the last time you saw a line down the street or mall for people waiting to buy an Android phone?

It's common practice these days for smaller players to announce products in the days leading up to a show or well before a show to get as much press as possible. So I'd expect some planned leaks or something before if something big is coming.

When was the last time you saw people line up to drink Flavor-Aid laced with cyanide?

If the iPhone were available at as many outlets as Android phones, there may not be lines to buy them.

The first 10 pages, I think. But I'm not sure it was so long ago. Maybe it was only the first page and I'm thinking of some other thread.

What's a Pentax anyway?

To deny that they fundamentally changed the game is silly. Just look at every major phone makers product lines before and after the iPhone and the scale of that change is pretty obvious.

Instagram came along just in time for the iPhone 4 and proliferation of Android phones.

There's a ton of manufacturers making Android phones, since it's a free OS, and they release new phones all the time. So of course there won't be a line to buy one. There's always plenty of new stuff coming out - almost daily!

I'm sure iOS is good too but is it worth several times what I paid for my 5" Android phone (49 dollars, no contract)? I doubt it.

The question was about innovation in the photo industry.
It's not being rude to say that none of the smartphone producers has the leadership in this respect.

Well it is rumored thath the new Rebel 750D Canon Eos will have a 24mp sensor. That's kind of innovative (for Canon )

Android phones are the new flip phone. I bought one for $30. It came with Spongebob Squarepants ear buds...
(Laughs).

Boris, you're talking about a saturated market, that even Apple has discovered when its shares hit $671 in 2012, with a lack of iPhone, Mac, iTunes and web services innovation since - including failed "low end" handsets , with declining market share in tablets, too.

The threat to Samsung's global dominance won't be from an ageing Apple, scratching its head in the post Jobs era.

It's from a wave of Chinese manufacturers doing Android, not iOS.

IMHO, Pentax have done well as a minority player in a rapidly shrinking DSLR market.

It would be easy to produce excellent products at a loss, like HTC does in phones.
