I used one on my old 60D, quite happy with it, in fact I like it better as I can face the screen in most of the time, flip it out when needed.

Looks like the engineers and the camera designers hit home with this blend. Kudos to the upcoming K-?? team!

...but wait the K-50 and II/IIs have been discontinued recently.... anyway, Spring 2015 is not so far away. Seems the reps are under NDA or aren't informed yet too of what these cameras will be. Thanks for asking them!
Are you sure the K-50 is discontinued? They usually stop taking orders for custom color models some time before discontinuing a model but you can still order a custom K-50 in Japan. Is that the same in other countries too? The K-5 II is now sold out at most retailers, so it's a different story.

So if the K-50 stays around for a while as a value model, Ricoh will have three models, sensibly spaced, in their mainstream line, plus the K-S1 in their "S" line for people who don't want so much direct control.

Yup, I've had one way back in 2003 or 2004, my first digital camera: Canon A80

Wow that backside looks to me like they gave up usability to accommodate that screen. Buttons are not placed where you can reach them comfortably, but instead, they are shoved to the edge of the camera...? weird layout i think

I think I read it somewhere here in the forums, or I misread that and it was just the K-5 II/IIs.

See the Pentprism housing? See the OVF with dioptre?

Hey look...NFC
Well, spotted!

I hope they use it to make it super easy to transfer images to your phone (or even a TV set?) for easy sharing. This could be very useful and very popular.

I also hope they will also include NFC and the articulating screen for the next flagship model.

At the rate Pentax is going with this, maybe they'll manage to push our a full-frame, too!
Don't jinx it!

Purely my opinion:
Pros- Long awaited new features galore! Articulating screen; WiFi, NFC; compact kit lens - Seriously my last 3 phones have had WiFi, NFC and GPS in a chip the size of my pinky nail.
Existing Pentax features maintained - compact, dual control wheels, weather proofing, SR, solid strap lugs, etc etc. - why piss off your most faithful fans.
Cons - a tad boxy (I love my K-01, but my favourite body is still the sculpted K-30) and I prefer most of the doors and flaps on the LHS, away from the grip.
I'm betting it's a K-50 replacement, as all those features will price it well out of the K-500 price range. Ricoh appear to have settled on a 2-model range for Pentax with both above the cheapest entry-level DSLRs and shy of the top-of-the-range FF DSLRs where they expect some will consider the jump to 645.

Pentax seriously need to re-look at mirrorless market instead of these cosmetic gimmicks if they are looking to increase some market-share.
I'm glad they chose to make a camera with a real viewfinder instead. This camera looks tiny, probably narrower than the Olympus OM-D E-M1.

Edit: See K-S1 w/FA77 compared to E-M1 w/75mm here: http://camerasize.com/compact/#564.83,482.346,ha,t
