Perhaps they know better than to try competing with Canikon on that segment?

I think they don't believe that sportsimages are important.
I don't think that they see them as not important, rather I think they know that their AF is not up to the same standard as the Nikon and Canon cameras .....yet.

You know what else is interesting? After 15 years of buying used lenses and new bodies I got a K-3.

And I've sold the used lenses and started buying new ones. DA* 300 and the TC are on my list this year, and maybe another body.

^^^ This. No point advertising your weaknesses. That is silly. They are not going to compete in that area without fast big glass that is backed up with quick solid AF. And they are not there. Yet.

Oddly, (or maybe not) I'm in the same situation. Up until recently the only 'new' lens I ever bought was the DFA 100. But I am seriously looking at selling some of my older gear and looking at the new stuff. I wish someone would do a comprehensive review of the 16-85. Adam? Adam? Adam?

I definitely do not need it. But it is getting closer to want it all the time.

I couldn't steady the SMC Takumar 500/4.5 I bought here a few years ago. Long is a completely separate skill set and I don't get out enough to master it.

Besides, 300 * 1.4 is pretty long as it is - and 300 * 4.8 or 5.5 is ridiculous (Q7/Q).

Well shoot, I should just borrow Steve's A*1200/8. I'd need a range spotter, but WTH.

But thanks for all the suggestions. I'm happy with what I have and with my plan.

Plans are subject to revision, just ask Ricoh.

That is exactly what I am trying to do. I bought the Q7 specifically because of that arithmetic.

I bought a (used) Rikenon75mm-300mm and now I'm learning to use in on my Q7 by photographing the various birds that visit the bird feeder in our back yard.

I'm no where near to perfect, but I'm doing much better than I ever did with an APS-C camera, and hopefully this will add something to the nature walks my wife and I will be taking once decent weather returns this spring.

My total investment is under $400, including a walking-stick / monopod

The 560 looks pretty sweet. There wouldn't be much money left over for the new FF after purchasing it though.

I think the question many should ask is how the 35mm K mount will affect their purchasing decisions... specifically with lenses. If Pentax comes out with the Zoom trilogy how many are going to upgrade from ASPC to 35mm and get the collection? Doesn't' have to be all at once, but over a years time?

I know myself personally, I'd probably just grab the camera and use my DA*55 and FA Limited's with it. I still shoot my K3 and love Pentax because of the size, weight, and build. But if FF glass is just as big and heavy as my Nikon glass, I'll stick to my lightweight primes. Hopefully the body doesn't become a monster too..

I have the Q/Q7. OEM K for Q Converter and DA55~300 for now. And a K200/2.5. Tripod and monopod, both with traditional ballheads and RC2 plates. I guess I should add a gimbal head and Arca Swiss ballhead conversion to my list for this year but that's as much money as another * lens.

Woops... posted this in the other CES thread by mistake:

What if Ricoh does like Nikon did with the DF and gives us a KD-LX retro FF right off the bat? Have you seen the lynch mobs on the Nikon forums over the DF ? Talk about DOOMED! LOL!

Funny thing is, I'd prolly like a KD-LX retro FF, heh heh, but I'd also most likely be in a minority on that one. I get the feeling that most people I see posting here are hoping for more of a K-3 style body with a FF sensor.

Whatever it is going to be, it's going to need a good size grip area with those big yet-to-be-named lenses.

Or they could make a FF K-S1 with flashy leds and a look at the little bird voice coming out of it.....
