I don't know how many FA* zooms Pentax made but they're not like cars - they don't rust away to nothing in a rural farm field . Somebody owns them.

And my bet is many of them appear For Sale (along with plenty of other highly-desirable K-mount lenses) shortly after an actual FF camera body is released. When that happens (after the intial surge of buyers who've always wanted an FA*) the market will determine a clearing price for both the D-FA* and the old FA* lenses.

So I say the FA* lenses initially RISE in price, then settle down to a confortable exhange value.
Could be but I'm not sure about initial rise in price.
FA*80-200mm is not a lens for collectors and it is not good enough for the real pros.
On the other hand there will always be some eager buyers, at least on auctions .

Good price on a lens that gets uniform praise. If the new * lens is a variant of that one it ought to be a solid addition.

Somebody owns those cars, also. The question is what kind of condition are they in? Over the past ten years, I moved a camera bag, containing the Pentax Super Program I used 1984-95, from Indiana to Kansas to Massachusetts back to Indiana. When I bought my Q7 recently, I got an adapter so I could use my old lenses ... and discovered that my K-mount telephoto zoom lens had developed fungus some time when I wasn't paying attention, so I will be trashing it back in the state where I bought it thirty years ago.

If people own those FA*80-200 lenses and they're not selling them now, why would they be selling them when the Pentax FF comes out? Makes no sense.

If people have the money, they'll get the Pentax DFA*, if they don't, Tamron's 70-200 is still being made. And people with hardly any money at all can get the Tammy 70-300 at very affordable prices, and with the high ISO capabilities of the new camera, it will probably do well enough for a hobbist - especially in the 70-200 range. And there's the Sigma 70-300 APO as well, some people like it better than the Tamron.

That's what's cool about Pentax releasing the FF camera, there's already a ton of options out there, some new, some used, and you can get a system going quickly and then upgrade its parts with time.

Awesome! I had put several "Pentax 70-200 f/2.8" in my budget for next year!!!

It was funny that my budget folks were like "But this lens doesn't exist?", and I was like - trust me, it will be here.

Nice to know I am on the mark.

kenspo, if you know what is coming, can you tell us if you have seen or used a prototype or just a roadmap or something?

I noticed that one of the Ricoh photographers is a Finnish nature photographer who I follow on Flickr. I just checked what his last picture were taken with. Guess what it is? A Nikon D800...

I wish i could share everything, but i cant. I wont risk my good relationship with Pentax. But i have seen a little bit of dummy's and prototypes (mostly pictures, since they are in another part of the world) and of course different roadmaps Ricoh/Pentax have made, where they have pinpointed out where and what etc. And i have meetings with Pentax all the times...But i've said it before; 2015 will be a good year of many to come, for Pentax

Will this be the lens that introduces a true replacement for SDM? DC might be effective and reliable, but it still isn't all that fast.
*means SDM.
Pentax owns a Patent with a complete new SDM,Ring SDM.
The 70-200,the Telezoom and the Fullframe Body are ready and comming this year.
Everybody should have a nice christmas :-)
Both new lenses are NOT Tamron or Sigma copys.
Till end of next year we will get 6 - 8 fullframe lenses.
This week Pentax shows the new internal roadmaps for camera and lensline, the public roadmap will be to see next to CP+.
Pictures of the new body are out,but only for show in the offices.
Also at CP+ public will see more about the camera.
It is bigger than K-3 and not the same Style, but simmilar.
No design experiment.
Some with DC and other with SDM.
Best regards

Good possible that we will get it now with the 70-200.
I compared the lenssystem with the bodysize and it will be one area with lot of space for the bigger SDM System.
The focus unit is fat,i think to fat for the old SDM.
The lenses at CES were 90% ready, the 70-200 maybe 99%.
No dummy like last year.
