Interesting if true, but I wonder if they could keep the cost and size down to acceptable levels. If the GR no longer fits in your pocket, it loses a lot of its appeal. I personally think that there are a lot of other useful things they could do to improve the GR, such as reintroduce SR, reintroduce PDAF, add WR to keep the dust off that sensor, improve battery life, even give it dual card slots for photojournalists who can't afford to lose a shot. There's no denying that FF is a huge selling point at the moment, but the GR is about catching the moment, not ultimate image quality.

I agree. The image quality is great. But there are many cameras with great IQ. What's unique about the GR is that it is quick to operate, small enough to carry in a pocket and doesn't attract attention. If they can keep those qualities and make it FF, it will be great. This is interesting. There was a comment somewhere from someone who seemed to know that some wouldn't be happy. A full frame not for K mount.

But it makes sense. There is a market opportunity here, something unique where they can apply all the R&D put into a full frame sensor. A compact body, collapsible lenses, high IQ. It gets them into the full frame chip market as well, and gives an iteration at the technology. Plus if well done would be profitable and into an unoccupied niche.

Consider that the original GR is for 35mm film, so making a good lens for a FF chips might not be very hard nor very long.

Yes I recall a comment a while back that there'd be gnashing of teeth or somesuch in Pentaxland when a new product from Ricoh appeared. An FF GR would fit with quite a few things: small, rather cult and special, the brand already has a brilliant rep, not a huge FF behemoth and no need to worry about all those pesky K-mount lenses which would have to be made. But, hmmn, I wonder whether every sale of such a camera would be matched by one sale less of K-mount stuff as as Outraged of Bokehburg migrated to another brand unless an FF K-mounter came out at the same time. Who knows. I'd be very tempted by a GR like that anyway.

I'm not sure the GR needs a FF sensor... but if they can sell it, why not?

It's harder, since the rays need to impinge close to vertically on current digital FF sensors.

no way. GR never have zoom lens in its entire history. Really good prime lens is one of GR identity.

Well if they did a prime then I hope not 28mm because that would be just too specialist considering the likely price. It's fine on APS-C for a few hundred bucks but at nearer 1000 or more on FF ... maybe I would want something a bit more generalist ...
