I favour possibility (2). My recent photographs using the FA* 80-200/2.8 on the K3 are fantastically sharp and colourful in low light conditions. Kicking that lens back into the stoneage would be the same as saying kicking Pentax into extreme pro-land without peer. If you have experienced the FA* 80-200/2.8 then you would know what I mean.

Do not worry, no weeping.

I have one and it would be an appropriate stop gap on FF with no SR until I can afford the DA*.

I'm still not convinced I need FF though.
Why not possibly use the DA300+TC for extreme reach and shoot in DX mode (to borrow the Nikon term). Then use FX mode for landscape work. I'm pretty certain I want a FF for landscape work and a 36 MP FF would be a great asset. Depending on the high iso performance, if it can get up into the 2500ish range of Nikon, it would be great coupled with high performing tele lens. I've already got a FF compatible kit(Sigma 20-40/F50/Sigma 70/Sigma 100-300), so it's not an unreasonable next step for me.

Or Ricoh will make SR IBIS work with SR ILIS. As Sony.

I think full frame is coming. I would guess that it will have IBIS, as it would be a big selling point against most of the other full frame options out there. It still make senses for telephotos to have stabilization in the lens available, although honestly, if they released two versions -- one with and one without, I would choose the one without.

As to when full frame is coming, I have no idea. My experience with Ricoh to this point is that they release gear when they think it is ready, whether or not that coincides with a big photography meeting. In fact, they seem more likely to release things at other times so as not to have their announcement's thunder stolen by whatever Nikon or Canon or Sony are releasing.

I do think the FF camera will have IBIS and that it will possibly be a new type of IBIS that will beat in-lens IS. One can but dream.

The 70-200 is an expected move, hopefully it will be in the same level as the Canons because this is one reason a lot of people go with Canon, it's the quality of their 70-200 images.

It's still widely available in stores where I am.

Sigma seem to be doing strange things with their lens inventory management recently - old models disappear, then re-appear (like the 8-16 for Pentax has), and new models (eg the 24-105 f4 Art) show up for mounts like Canon/Nikon/Sony for a while in small quantities only, then they discontinue the Canon version completely, and only release a trickle into other mounts. Must be a new 'just-in-time' production system at work, where they produce only small lens batches according to demand, or something.

It has to be said that...

none of this really matters because...

Sorry, it had to be said. You can all carry on now.

Cheers,

I think so too. Fingers crossed.

If Sony can fit sophisticated IBIS for E-mount into the compact form factor of an A7II, Pentax engineers should be able to fit SR into the far more spacious interior of a conventional style FF DSLR.

I always imagine Pentax engineers being too anal about little things like... Let's not allow user use hardware SR for video because we can't figure out how to make it silent... So who knows what small issue they are going to run into and then decide to abandon ship.

Those people should look at the 60-250

Pentax = IBIS.. thats one of the things that they market the most.. so a body without IBIS will be mmmmm shocking ( and not in a good way ) .. so yes.. IBIS is in my opinion something that will be with the FF body for sure.

That's not an f/2.8 lens. They want f2.8... also, the 60-250 AF is said to be too slow for action shots. I haven't had one but that's been agreed on, in other threads.

Speed of both aperture and focus are critical. The SDM lenses are reported to be relatively slow in focusing but the f4 issue is a big one. I hope the new 70-200/2.8 is a modern *80-200/2.8 because the sample images from it appear to be at least as good as the 60-250 and its faster both ways from what I've read about it.
