Hi rawr
Not actually talking about the pictures that is way to small to make any judgement. I find the guys comments more interesting.

Yeah. I'm glad to see it does well at 70mm - F/7, but I pretty much assumed that it would. I keep waiting for the F/2.8 200mm shots. IF I'm going to shoot at 70mm F/7 I'll just pick up the DA 70mm F/2.4 for a fraction of the cost an weight. I want to see 200mm F/2.8 at 1.3 meters. I want to see the extremes since I assume the middle is going to be excellent.

It doesn't look dissimilar to what the DA* 60-250mm would resolve - that particular lens never ceases to amaze me with it's resolution.

Indeed. Telephoto lenses need to excel at the ends of the range because it's the ends of the range, and at f/2.8, where you are paying the weight. If that makes sense.

On the opposite I tend to think the longer the focal length, the less I feel the need for large apperture artistically. The large apperture is then mostly for light gathering and coutering noise... Or allowing to focus with a TC.

Thus if the f/2.8 is not perfect this isn't that bad as i don't feel that much the need of it and asking for the best performance if I'am already at high iso is like throwing money out of the windows.

For distant landscapes, the atmospheric fog take his tax, for not so distant landscapes, you don't need a long tele. For many subject like wildlife, the border performance is not that critical as it will be blured.

At some point I kind of feel theses lenses are like ultimate sport car. We buy more the best of the best not because it is needed but because we can and we feel we want it.

There is a difference between e.g.1/500 and 1/1000s at the same ISO and it is critical if you shoot action in less than optimal light.

You have a different style of shooting. I generally wouldn't consider a 70-200 a landscape lens, handy as a 70-200 sometimes might be in that genre.

For sports you need large aperture AND the longer focal length of a fast 70-200. Plus in sports you often don't have time to think artistically.

This is the same argument: you don't use f/2.8 for the ultimate quality or whatver but for light gathering... That the f/2.8 setting is not perfect on border or something is not very important.

In low light action, they are: the subjects can fill the whole frame or you may have to recenter the scene by cropping and bad corner performance will be more noticeable with one side noticeably sharper than the other.

Be patient, he is currently testing the BR (blood resistant) capabilities of the lens at a Norwegian black metal festival.
