to me it looks like your 300/4 is front focusing. the TC makes it worse.

Is the AF adjustments saved separately for lens+TC or just the lens ? If it is you may try this first.

Looks like we need a 300mm + TC thread.

Yep I will ! For the front focus test shots I put it off.
Indeed a new thread may be more suited.

they look OK although near focusing is always going to perform better.

I have just noticed you had SR on when mounted to a tripod - that is likely to be your problem. With extra reach the SR on when mounted on a tripod gets even worse, especially when ISO ramps up.

Yes, I will give it another try. And I will also try again the 300 alone without SR.
This is sad though, it would mean that the 150-450 isn't stabilized either...

Why do you want a stabilized lens on a tripod ? No SR system (IBSR or ILSR) is precise enough to be usefull on a (locked) tripod as far as I know, few lenses have tripod detection but only to stop SR automatically when on tripod.

You should be using delayed shutter release or a remote when on tripod, both of which disable SR.

It means that SR algorithms could use an improvement. Maybe.

On the manual they say to desactivate SR when on tripod.

When you put a DSLR on tripod with SR activated and continuous AF, the SR gets crazy (the K-x / k-r at least) and shakes in every direction even though there is no mouvement

Got that with my Tammy 500/8. Was very funny to see for a minute in LV but that's it.

You also download a few other samples here : http://timphoto.free.fr/__autres/Pentax/TC_1.4/300_vs_420.zip
Regardless of the lens or AF performance, these are GREAT pics!
