Yes for isolation. But "nervous" bokeh.
Comparison with OTUS goes for OTUS, even as fairly "uncomparable" those two images are.

How about the Zeiss T* 100-300 Vario-Sonnar?

(the way i see it "nervous bokeh" is part of the shared SMC-T* legacy/pedigree) Zeiss users don't seem to mind, and I even less so since I'm paying much lens

Alex Munoz sample has been flashed in, so it looks weird. Almost like it has been photo shopped. A wire fence in the background will always give you nervous bokeh. You have to be picky about back drops in photography

I can get isolation at f7.1, not 1.7, if I'm close enough. And this was taken with an old 70-210 zoom that only came with wrist-drive AF. Surprisingly creamy bokeh as well.

No reason to rush it. This is a core lens for FF users. It needs to be an excellent performer.

I hope the bokeh isn't as nervous/busy as that of the new D-FA 150-450 in the sample shots.. very nervous bokeh.. More so.. hoping this isn't what the 24-70 is going to do too..

Do you know whether it's due to Ricoh trying to improve upon performance as compared to pre-production copies or whether it's due to unrelated reasons (slow production, logistic problems etc.)?

Like sales of 150-450 being far beyond expectations and the line still tied up making more of them. /<speculation>

Perhaps the delay may be because Ricoh want to:

- further tune and refine all the IQ (optics) and performance (AF) elements of the lens, to make it totally class-leading;
- do further work to closely test and integrate the lens with the new features of the still-evolving FF body - like it's AF system - and existing bodies like the K-3 II too;
- delay the release of the lens because Ricoh are preparing another event soon to launch some more FF lenses alongside the 70-200, and they want to present them all to the world as a set .

- make a larger than planned initial stock of lenses to meet the larger than expected initial round of orders.

It could be done.

In a similar vein, I was just reading a story about a Chinese businessman who recently paid for a 4 day holiday in France for 6400 of his employees.
