It isn't but very near it. A slight update should make it compatible with FF, and it still would be an interesting FF lens IMO (very interesting even).

The older Tamron 70-200 doesn't have any of the charms and build quality of a DA* lens. People may consider that worth paying a premium for over a Tamron or Sigma.

Just like Nikon and Canon users seem happy to pay a premium for their f4 70-200's over 3rd party f2.8 designs. It's not an issue exclusive to Pentax.

Well 60-250 is in my list compared to this possible 70-200, if prize is too high on latter one, and some who has bought new pentax FF says it is goodfor it too, I'll get 60-250/4..

Hope the FF really is coming...

just when I decided to finally get the upcoming Sony A7RII and go mirrorless...

First generation of A7 series is nice but doesn't seem very 'complete' and rush, the A7II with SR is really nice. So A7RII with SR and improve will be what I am waiting for.

I hope Pentax got the digital FF right in the first generation (In my opinion they got 645 right in the 645Z, the 2nd iteration)!

The main reason why I am waiting for the 70-200 to come out instead of just getting the 60-250 is because the 60-250 is not an internal zoom. One of the reasons I love my Tamron 70-200 is because the internal zoom makes it feel more enjoyable for me to use.

The 60-250 may be in a similar situation to the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRI (2002), which is the model before the current (2009) Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRII. The VR1 lens was designed when Nikon only made APS-C digital, and never optimised for FF since Nikon FF was still 5 years away. But the VR1 works quite OK on FF. The Pentax 60-250 could pull the same trick, perhaps with a tweak or two (eg some in-camera corrections for vignetting at wider apertures).

Actually Nikon has another similar lens: the 80-200/2.8. Not quite as cheap as the Tamron, but said to be excellent optically, even though the optical design hasn't changed much since the late 80s. No IS and no in lens motor, but pro quality optics. And used ones can be found cheap, expecially the older versions which are basically the same optically.

My boss has a Nikon and we were looking at this lens just last week during the KEH sale... he ended up not buying it tho.

Does Pentax/Ricoh still have a partnership thing with Tokina? Tokina's 70-200 is becomming available soon and maybe there's a connection between that and a P/R 70-200. This seems to indicate a P/R FF to me. Tokina also has a couple more important FF lineup lenses coming out so the stars seem to be aligning to me.Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX and AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX lens prototypes shown at Photokina | Photo Rumors

Pentax knows how to make lenses better than Tokina, I think - for the most part

So in this case they don't need Tokina and all indications are that these new lenses are Pentax designs. The Tokina/Pentax link was back when Hoya owned both companies, I think. Pentax does rebadge lenses sometimes when they don't want to go through the effort of re-creating a consumer item that is already good enough, like with the superzooms it has rebadged from Tamron.

Also, of the two wide angle lenses you listed, one is an APS-C lens and the other is FF. In this case I wouldn't mind seeing Tokina rebadges because Tokina wide angles are at least as good as any manufacturer's. Their 70-200, I don't know, their AF teles have been good bang for the buck lenses, but that's about it. Their standard zooms also have not done that well. Who knows, that might change now.
