Well, with hood and tripod mount it goes up to 2030g which is the real use case. Dunno about the Sigma though.

Hehe..i was trying to say it with a smile..not easy with writing. I know its not that much more heavy..But it feels extremely heavy. And big!

i was shaking in the cold..But beside that, i used AF-C, one point focus..and i used the back button to continuous focusing while following the moving subject. I felt testing the AF-speed told me the most yesterday. I can and will do the changes i need to make it sharper. So this was just a first test of many

just a side note on these pictures and my own experience: wouldn't it be great, if you could tell your camera to ignore or supress certain colours/wavelenght ranges in autofocusing calculation? This would be great in any situation where the subject to be in focus has distinct colours from the back/fore/over/under ground... Footbal and other games would be much safer to shoot. This could be a custom function and could be added to custom mode. Just imagine switching to Footbal mode and being safe that your focus won't end up on the grass behind (this is happening to me more often than I'd like)

An even better option would be, if you could use the camera as some kind of colour picker, you point to the colour you a) prefer to follow or b) prefer to ignore, snap it (just like you do with colour balance) and the camera will look for it and use in AF calculation as per preference. Is this doable? Any experts to comment?

If you manage to lock on an object with a given color, K3 would track the subject. I tryed it, it works. This was not fast paced, but the camera indeed use color tracking, maybe even shapes. I don't know exactly.

this is obviously great to know, but is always a solution for one particular movement/tracking. If you had the option to pre-set the colour preference, it would be easier to a) lock on subject and b) jump from subject to subject without the risk that the AF locks on background inbetween, which I think is a very frequent issue

In Nikon terms, that would be similar to their '3D tracking' AF-C mode, which [theoretically] engages the AE metering sensor to record the colours under the active AF point at the time of half-button press. This information is then used to help the AF system track targets better (eg red rugby jersey against green grass).

It seems likely that in the K-3's AF system similar tech is already at work, since the K-3's sophisticated 86K pixel metering sensor seems more than capable of supporting '3D-tracking' or anything equivalent.

To me the K3 AF hardware and metering is on the top of what exist. There very few things to improve like a few more points to have a wider area covered and maybe an f/8 AF sensor for TC support.

Software wise I think they still need some time to improve the algorithms and make work great. I don't know if they would improve the K3 support on it or it will start with the new FF (together maybe with more AF points).
