I wonder how it turns out for you if the "FF kit" turns out to be an f/4 or variable aperture lens. Hopefully slightly less than mediocre?

but in any case, this isn't the time for any negative thinking. Not until all needed announcements have been made, at least.

I was thinking that too... I've held off on the new Sigma 150-600 for my D810 because I have the Sigma 120-300, which is a monster for casual work, whereas, the Pentax 150-450 on my K-5 would be a nice change from that world of pain.

You won't tell anything about the coming FF anyway so maybe you can tell us if the midlevel camera with WiFi and tilting back LCD (as shown behind glass in Las Vegas) is bound to be announced in the coming days?
I can tell that its really coming this time..but not more then that at this time

Yes, but i wont say specs etc.

Yes, you don't need lenses, just the body...

I mean, it is not a star lens and also no HD. It does not reach the same level of a star lens.
Agreed but it definitely has the Warp Factor.

A new items i would like to see from pentax.

I would like to see Pentax do a Lens Similar to the Sigma 8 - 16mm F4.5 - 5.6 DC HSM in their WR line lenses to connect with the new HD PENTAX-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6ED DC WR

I would also love to see what the new super telephoto will be I would like to see something like the Sigma 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM
Also in their WR Line.

Then from what i could see only one of their Rear Teleconverters are WR would love to their 1.7x and their 2xS Teleconverters be made into their WR Line.

I am planing on replacing my lenses i have into the HD Pentax DA 16 - 85mm DC WRN and the new HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8ED WR and also the 1.4x WR Teleconverter

for the 100-300 to offer the same range as the 150-450 would require adding a 1.4x tele converter, reducing the aperture to f/5.6 over the entire range and possibly compromising IQ.
you could use an APS-C DSLR and accomplish the same effect - it would be possible to compare the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 on APS-C against the Pentax lens on Full frame.

This 150-450 has a larger widest open aperture at the lower end of the range and will offer 450mm as designed.
The long end of the zoom range is of greatest interest to many users here, and the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO performs quite well even with a 1.4 TC on APS-C, so it would probably perform as well on full frame.

I would actually be using the DFA150-450 on an APS-C DSLR as well since I have no personal interest in FF. So again, a different range. Anyway, we'll see what tomorrow brings, then wait for results and then place an order (I've been waiting for this kind of lens for a long time).

hmm with a variable aperture makes this lens looks like a less appealing alternative to the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG. We will have to wait for an optical comparison.
a fixed f 4 lenses in this range would be a monster lens, look the 200-400 f 4 nikkor who cost 7000 dollar....
the difference between 300 and 450 is a lot in the field....a 450 compared to 675 mm....we are talking about a range who cover a lot of sports and wildlife needs. you can use the converter with sigma too.
persoanlly we have a 60-250 f4 that is simply amazing optically. and just 50 mm less than sigma, this new long lens is a perfect companion

I may have missed something, but I don't see any DC designation in the name of these lenses? They surely aren't going to be screwdriven, right?

I would estimate the odds of them being screw AF as being roughly equal to them not being K mount.

Similarly I'm missing the WR designation in the names. I guess with the DFA*(star) WR goes without speaking, but the DFA150-450? Perhaps the idea is that the new generation of DFA has these implicitely? WR for me is important, esp since these lenses are typical outdoor (sports/wildlife) lenses. But perhaps we're only looking at partial names for now?

New Pentax lenses must be WR at the very least.

Come to think of it... the mock-ups at Photokina did have an o-ring at the mount, so WR at that time at least... Note that it was red, and the red seems to have disappeared... ;-)
