Wow! Now my savings account is threatened. I'm so tempted to buy this lens, but it seems like quite an investment when I probably mostly will use it to make snapshots of local birds and squirrels on our bird feeder
It's my number one lens.

Do you use the continuous shooting function? Are there other adjustments that can be done in advance to improve your chances of a successful photo? I have no experience with such a powerful lens, but your photos give me confidence.

Cheers,
Loyd

This had been my favorite Pentax lens for years. Trouble is, age and recurring shoulder problems have prompted me to sell it a couple times. After getting the K-3iii I decided I should give it another try as my shoulder is a bit better now. WOW. The DFA 150-450 has always been snappy but with the new camera it is amazingly fast. I have been using some of the fast focusing equipment from some other brands lately and the K-3iii and DFA 150-450 are right there with the best of them as regards IQ and speed of focus. I have not checked tracking. But I rarely use it anyway.

I have a high opinion of the 150-450 on both my K3 and K1, can’t wait to try in on my new K3iii for birding

Notices of update available will appear on PF but you go directly to Ricoh Imaging for the updates.
I followed the instructions on the web-site. The first glitch is that I had to open, copy, and paste the update into my root menu. The instructions said it would open automatically. The second glitch almost gave me an anxiety attack. The instructions warn against turning off the camera. They also say that the message "complete" will appear when the update is finished. Well, after one minute, my camera went into sleep mode. I waited and waited and waited for "complete" to appear. Nothing. Fortunately I remembered to tap the shutter button rather than shut down the camera. The camera came to life. I checked for the update, and it was there.

It would have been so sad to receive my new 150-450 and not be able to use it. Happily, when the lens arrives around May 5th, I'll be ready.

Cheers,
Loyd

What will the K3iii do for birding that the K3 doesn't already do? The images I've seen so far are really amazing.

The K3markIII has vastly improved autofocus and ISO handling. The FPS is actually a little overwhelming coming from the K1markII. I have the K3 as well, and I'm getting shots with the K3MarkIII that I'd never even dream of trying with the K3.

Lovely images in this thread! The DFA150-450 is a favourite of mine too. I hope the K-3 III's AF and SR improvements will make me carry it more often again. Perhaps handheld will be easier now, so I won't be required to log my tripod along.

GPS data available when tethered by phone. Itís a slick implementation from my reading of the user manual.

Matt thanks for the information . Does the metadata for each image contain the GPS info ? The K-3 Mk iii is well regarded by the reviews I read .
