You may see that the glass cut is also painted with dark paint, so you can't guess the material just by the aspect of the material.
A DC motor would be visible and there would be a gear mechanism visible.
Also see that the internal ring seems directly coupled with the focusing ring. A spacer ring would not touch the focusing ring
The glass is not painted, it just has a Matt appearance due the roughened cut surface. Neither is anything else painted. Look at other sectioned lenses to see how they look. A dc motor would only be visible if it was either directly in the cutting plane or not far away. It could be in the section that was removed, or hidden behind some components. Again look at other sdm/DC lens cutaways by pentax, often you can't see the motor either.

I know people want to believe that there is a ring motor in these lenses, but look at the facts which show no evidence of there being one. Asahi mans speculation does not make it a fact, especially since there's no evidence a ring motor is used. Nor does pentax claim they have developed or used unique induction ring motor.

Thanks for these first pictures kenspro ! The light was really bad though, and it's hard to say something on the sharpness. As said before, it would be great if you could shoot some birds / mammals in a sunny day !

I saw on the 70-200 topic that you also have the DA* 300, can you tell how does the 150-450 performs compared to it (IQ-wise) ?

Hehe..When i have the time, i will i have 4 days of Black Metal festival to work on in the days to come! Ricoh gave me these lenses to test for my own sake, but i want to share what i find out.

The 150-450 seems faster. Will have to compare sharpness between them later.

Any chance to test the focusing with fast moving subjects coming at you (like planes)?
And far away subjects (like barely filling the focus points)?

These would test not only the speed, but also accuracy and optical qualities.

Ricoh is between a rock and hard place with SDM and I'm sure you can work out why -
Can't "officially" say there was ever problem.
Can't "officially" say they have fixed it. ( Logic would say they have of course)
The fix - use a focus drive system in new lenses that is proven and has a more positive reaction in the market place.

That said - I personally would have no problems buying a new SDM lense today if it fitted my needs
i have had the SDM replaced twice in the 16-50 and the 60-250 since the original purchases and the last ones took and both were done under Ricoh. so whatever was the problem it seems to have been solved.

That is the ONLY sure thing about the "new" Pentax up to now! I can't wait to see if this characteristic is justified by the quality it provides...
