Nice! I forgot about that, it seems a very serious bag indeed. Not that I'll probably use it much though. I'll find out Saturday, when I'm going to pick up mine! Shame I'll only be able to test it more than a week later, since I'm studying for an important exam (the first time in 20 years) right now...

Good PS you included. I always used a Hoya Clear Pro1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass filter on my FA*300/4.5. Perhaps I should get one for this lens as well. Normally I'm not a believer in filters for protection, but for my FA*300 I really needed it a few times when shooting birds on windy beaches to keep the salt spray off the front element, or when shooting up at animals in trees in dripping rain forests etc... My DFA150-450 will see similar use so...

Tx!! Wim

Nice to see some good shots coming out with this lens!

Funny to me that all of the negativity about this lens and the pricing and weight and the initial lack of good photos has not dissuaded those with an interest in this type of lens from purchasing it. And as better photos come in, my guess is that those that are on the fence will be more willing to jump in on this one too.

I see that it's a perfect match for your k-3. A fine looking equipment with that lens on it. It looks really rugged and mean.

Just ordered for AUD2999 with 24 month Australian warranty. Should have it mid next week.

Pentax HD D FA DC AW 150 450mm F4 5 5 6 Zoom Lens Black | eBay

This is a great price - about AUD100 cheaper than in New York, and the Australian price includes 10% GST.

I've postet some samples in the dedicated picture thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/294721-post-your-hd-pentax...ml#post3245645

And here I have some comparison shots (F/5.6 and F/8) at 450mm. Camera was on a sturdy tripod. I used a remote control and 3 sec MU. No additional sharpening applied.
First the whole picture an then some 100% crops:

The distance to the tower was about 2,5 km.
As you can see, the lens is sharp, but slightly "hazy" (for the lack of a better word) at F/5.6.

Well, f5.6 is wide-open at 450mm. But even so, for 2.5km that's not bad.

Any opinions yet as to whether the new lens is sharper than the DA*300? That would be of interest.

I recently sold my Sigma 100-300mm f4 and 50-500mm OS so that I was able to buy the 150-450mm and I have to say from what I save seen so far I am seriously starting to regret doing so. The 50-500mm really is a superb lens, especially for what it costs but I'm really hoping to see some shots soon that convince me that I did the right thing.

At the moment, I don't.
For the price difference...I don't either. I have the Bigma 50-500 and it has been my best lens purchase ever.....including my Pentax Ltds. For the money, what you get is amazing. I'm not as particular as some, I want decent shots that convey a clear message and are of good quality to the 99% that are not pixel peeping perfectionists, and the Bigma can easily deliver that. I hope you are not disappointed by the new lens, and hopefully you won't be.

Conveying a message....If you crack and eat more pecans than your own body weight, you might not be able to move about for a while.

Regards!
