Some, perhaps!

Thanks! That's with my DA 55-300, bought in Japan through Kakaku.

Me too! Although if they could do updated versions of the DA 55-300 and DA*300 with the new AF motors, I'd buy new copies! My main frustration with the DA*300 is slow focus and hunting. I'm seriously considering this 150-450, but I'm worried whether I'll get enough use out of it due to the weight and size. It's not something I could take travelling unless got a hard case for it and paid for extra luggage. For birding photos at home it should be great though! It might also get me close to the Platypus at Tidbinbilla.
The 150-450 is about 800 g more than the DA300 with tripod mt, & same as Tamron 150-600 I tried,so for me wasn't so heavy, but I would love to hold a 150-450 before I buy one..but impossible here

I don't find my Bigma too heavy, so the 150-450 would not be a weight problem, although if you were on a long trip through rough terrain, they both might be pretty cumbersome.
As for routine shooting, you learn to use your chest to brace your elbows, a tree to lean against, or other innovative ways to maintain stability. It is seldom a problem for me either.

The more speed I can get the easier it is to hand hold and get a shot...like this one where I was able to get 1/250 and still keep the ISO reasonable. The 150-450 should be even easier than the Bigma. Of course, having a fat squirrel as a target always helps too!

As for the bokeh of the 150-450...I've seen enough to convince me it is wonderful. Maybe not on certain backgrounds, but that would hold true for most any lens.

Regards!

I just wanted to add something here since it has been mentioned. The 55-300 may be the best long glass bargain around. I have seen many hundreds of superb shots from it and it always amazes me of the IQ for the price. If I didn't have the Bigma, it would be a "Buy Now" item for sure! No, it isn't the DA*300 but most of us are not Pro shooters either, and the 55-300 can put a smile on any face!

@150mm e.g., this lens can be interesting for lansdcape as well.

Nice.

At 150mm, I wonder if it can do portraits too?

Maybe the 150-450 could also do fashion - I notice Benjamin Kanarek has been using a Tamron 300mm f2.8 that weighs almost 3kg recently for some of his ELLE shoots, so the idea is not too strange.

This start to really show the perspective compression, it might not work so well on all models but it is possible for sure. 150mm is less extreme than a 300mm even if the 150mm is used on APSC and the 300 on FF.

Those pictures you guys just posted are great shots. A handsome/ pretty squirrel. It's as if he/she knows you to pose for such a nice shot. The sunset is also beautiful. I haven't had the time to shoot recently.

How I also wish they could update the motors for old lenses particularly the 55-300 WR though I just recently got mine. I agree, it's the best consumer long lens I've seen.

Japan has its own species of Squirrel. I photographed this one at Enoshima, which is a day trip from Tokyo. I think I may have seen squirrels in Ueno park in Tokyo, but I've only been there in summer once. So my point being that there are small furry animals which can be seen outside a zoo in the Tokyo area in a day. I've even seen wild deer in Nikko.
I don't know if it was the visits by Pentaxians that did it, but my Japanese Squirrel photo got into Explore! Thanks guys!

A special for Rupert : http://www.koreus.com/modules/news/article18747.html

(the guy used chestnut butter and fishing lines to attract the squirrels and position the objects)

150 would be awesome on a Full Frame camera for portraits, and we do have many portraits posted on the forum taken at 200mm or 300mm on APS_c

It would appear, that the test of a telephoto lens on the PF is not the famous brick wall, but the squirrel. Because, really, what good is a lens if you can't get good squirrel shots with it?

have you discovered this thread?

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/76-non-pentax-cameras-canon-nikon-etc/264...ml#post3260171

It would seem squirrels are pretty much universal, everyone has them. We should really have a pentax Forum squirrel shoot day, where everyone goes out and shoots their local squirrels and posts images.

So not a lot more than the DA*300 with HD DA 1.4 TC.
