AFAICT they upload more samples later. At least that was the case with previous zoom releases.

Stop moaning and be patient

PS: I'm eagerly waiting for those two...

True. Looks good edge-to-edge. Hardly any visible softness at the boundaries of the frame.
At least at 180-190mm, and on APS-C.
And at f/8.

Looking at the flower image reveals some fringing in front of and behind the plane of focus, which is a bit worrisome IMO. The Sigma 100-300mm /f4 doesn't exhibit that kind of abberration due to its apochromatic design.

it means you can run ISO 100 at f8. But there's a big risk of blur.
Not if you use MLU properly. The tripod collar foot seems to be well placed to help eliminate vibrations, Many CAnon L and Nikkor super telephotos don't have the foot appropriately placed for the FL.

samples with K-S2 :
As a FYI, I just figured out that the lens sample images were taken overlooking Battery Point in Hobart (Tasmania).

I knew something looked familiar about that scene.

...even the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG struggles with this.

On a continuum. There are long zooms that you start at f8 and smaller to get passable results. My 500 f4.5 Sigma is better at F8; better contrast deeper colors, a more pleasing image all around, but is very nice wide open. In low light I can shoot wide open. Same with the 300 f4 Pentax. 450 f5.6 requires pretty good light to start with, and if you lost half just to get anything, then I'll pass.

Is there in lens stabilization? Seems like there needs to be for a lens of this length

I'd think that the 500 F4.5 and 300 F4 being prime lenses gives them an advantage in that matter...

I'm kind of interested in this lens but as an owner of a Bigma and the 60-250 I wonder whether it's worth the investment.

I would hope that it would outperform the Bigma in terms of AF performance and general image quality but I wonder if I'd miss the sheer flexibility of 50-500mm...

Why so Heavy?? same as Sigma 150-600 sports, which I was about to go for & change to Nikon ,but 2kg is alot to handhold for birding,so I hoped the SIgma consumer or now the Pentax was lighter.I t must have SR built in,as in body SR is not good for long teles..

There is no SR switch or badge on the lens.

If that's all the improvement for such a big price, they can keep it.

60-250 is fixed aperture and was 60% of the price of this at launch. Acceptable for the quality. This one has to at least match it in IQ.

If I don't get a proper telephoto (300mm is too short for the uber-safe airshows we have nowadays) with good IQ I'll be [forced to] thinking seriously about a system change.
60-250 is a crop lens
