No. Tamron is for any bayonet. It's not lens of brand system.

I´ve been waiting for this one for a long time.

For that price, with that short zoom and slow and variable aperture, it better blow the 100-400 out of the water, meaning near prime quality and good focus.

If I wanted just decent performance up to 400mm I´d just buy a sigma 150-500.

Let´s see if Pentax can still make good lenses at a better price/value than the others.

Not WR: AW, which is more elaborated.

Actually the sigma is decent to about 480.

Dear Pentax, please develop a K-Q adapter that can AF with this lens. Thank you.

Assuming the rumored specs are correct, I'm a bit puzzled that the lens is 150-450 as opposed to, say, 135-400. That way it would be a perfect pairing for the 18-135. Still, it looks nice. However, given the price of lenses like Sigma's 150-500, I probably can't afford this anyway. Maybe I should have ordered the WR version of the DA 55-300 when the Pentax store had a blow-out, sub-$300 sale. Oh - that's right. I would have never gotten it.

Another exciting news/thread.

That could well be a "game changer" for a lot of wildlife photographers looking for a high quality (we shall see about that later) glass and versatility.
Whether it will be as good as the DA*300/4 in terms of IQ, again we shall see that in the near future, I suppose.

That and the 70-200 .... great news!

Maybe there will be a 24/28-150 FF lens

I think that's because the 150-450 is expected to work on FF while the 18-135 does not. I'd imagine, like D1N0 says, that Ricoh will eventually introduce a DFA something that ends near the 150mm mark.

It's Pentax. They do things a little differently sometimes.
Just be thankful they didn't make it a 177-431 mm.

But if Tamron does release it in Pentax mount it's going to make a DC motor FA* lens for $2300 look quite expensive.
I am a Pentax user. Are you?
Because I use Pentax lenses, and it happened that Pentax is the only company that makes cameras for their lenses. So I buy their cameras out of necessity.
I never understand people who say they "shoot Pentax" and think about a camera alone, but buying third party generic lenses. Like that you can "shoot Nikon" and be equally dismayed, because they are then shooting Tamron all the time, never Nikon or Pentax.

Btw,
D FA * lens uses a different type of motor.
And is top-notch weather sealed.
Outer coating and inner coating is most likely best in industry.
I would not dismiss some unique optical qualities / formulas too.

All of which outright dismisses Tamron from the equation of any meaningful long term investment for a discerning Pentax user. Or as old people would say, I am not so rich to buy cheap things.

I bought Sigma 150-500 just few weeks ago. After reading this new lens specification... can't say that I would regret it. WR/AW would be nice, but it doesn't justify the price abyss between them.

Anyway I'm eager to read about it's performance - maybe that will change my mind later on.
