In my opinion the increased price of the 150-400 over the sigma 150-500 is justified 1) by being fully weather sealed and 2) by being f5.6 at 450mm. The 150-500 is f6.3 from 300mm. Being a wider aperture lens and a bit smaller, it should also be faster at focusing which is a 3rd advantage. I might upgrade to it from my 150-500 when it drops in price.

It's also newer, an OEM product, and incorporates a lot of fancy features such as those special AF buttons.

But can I use my Pentax 1.4 TC with this new lens and still auto focus?

The 560 is also 5.6 and nothing wrong with the auto focus there. In good light all focus points can be used and in less ideal light use the centre point.

And, headband green line. Star lens, gold line. HD lens, red line. No, it either ......, DC lens is green headband? No, no, it is also different. Somehow, we have no longer sure ....... Hey I will try to organize a green and red line after. (Now, is being manufacturer inquiry.) There was a reply from the manufacturer. ⇒ now is unified in the "green line". The star lens as "gold", "green", will be the future in two colors system. With that said ⇒, red line lens is so no longer. ⇒ so that meaning is put in green, it seems to represent the "growth and development, nature and fresh". It seems we are unified in the "green" in the future of the product.
So, Red is no longer a thing... how funny.

Possibly the red band was used just to differentiate the HD versions of the existing lenses that were still in stock at the time the new coating was applied.

I want it (or maybe a bazooka...)!

I was waiting for this lens to pair it with my K3. But after I saw it it this article I am not so sure if today's airport security will allow me to pass with it as they might mistaken it for a bazooka ... Nevertheless I think that the grip will give it more balance and now just have to stop paying the mortgage to get one of this ... Well, I think that we will have some time to get some (good) reviews and to see if it will work also with the HD 1.4x coverter (then it will really blow away...)

Cheers,

Nope. They listened to the clamor that a lot of us want the green ring back. I still like the red though.

I thought it was a compact lens but, by the looks of it attached to the K-3, I think the specs stated might be wrong. It seems large and heavy.

If that's all the improvement for such a big price, they can keep it.

60-250 is fixed aperture and was 60% of the price of this at launch. Acceptable for the quality. This one has to at least match it in IQ.

If I don't get a proper telephoto (300mm is too short for the uber-safe airshows we have nowadays) with good IQ I'll be [forced to] thinking seriously about a system change.

Well, the o-ring that seals off the mount is still red...

The specs are correct. I measured the mock-ups at Photokina (through the glass) and found the same dimensions as stated in the specs. These didn't have a body attached either, but it was clear to me that they were as huge then as they appear now on these pictures. It's not always easy to mentally translate dimensions to reality.

Alternatively, the k-3 is smaller than most people imagine.

LOL... Very true! BTW, I wouldn't advise anyone to use a K-3 without the grip on this lens. It would probably look differently as well, shame there's no picture featuring this. (I find the K-3 needs the grip with the DA*16-50 and DA*50-135 as well, so...)

I have the grip on my k-3 and I gotta admit, it makes the camera feel complete to me. My pinkie fits in now~
