Ah, yes. That does seem more tempting. Odd, even in the UK the Ricoh list price is 200 GBP lower than the advertised street price by that retailer (SRS), who usually tends to be among the more affordable ones.

They probably used a different (dummy) list price before launch, which srs automatically adopted.

I know this lens is listed as "DC" but what is in a name? According to Asahi Man the lens motor used is SDM a new SDM called "Ring SDM". Maybe they called it DC to avoid the term SDM. I don't pretend to understand the technology or the difference between DC and SDM if there even is a difference. But it seems per Asahi Man they use Ring motors with SDM technology.

The 70-200,the Telezoom and the Fullframe Body are ready and comming this year.

Both new lenses are NOT Tamron or Sigma copys.
Till end of next year we will get 6 - 8 fullframe lenses.
This week Pentax shows the new internal roadmaps for camera and lensline,the public roadmap will be to see next to CP+.
Pictures of the new body are out,but only for show in the offices.
Also at CP+ public will see more about the camera.
It is bigger than K-3 and not the same Style,but simmilar.
No design experiment.

But,what means DC motor?
Nothing.
The motor in the kit lenses are small and only to use in light weight lens systems with short movement.
But there are lots of different types of DC motor.
The ring drive in the Pentax patent was NOT a ultrasonic like canons old type since the 90.
Old school,Nikon is using different types.
Here is a DC drive,looks more like the Pentax patent.

Meanwhile, I've seen the first list price by a European shop... GBP 1999 ( = € 2673; US$ 3066). Eeks. Doesn't seem all that unreasonable, actually, but it does also seem like a good reason not become an early adopter and take my time waiting for thorough reports of other people's experiences .

You mean different from what is in the 18-135? In that case they should have given it a different name too. And I think they would have, for marketing purposes.

I'm having a hard time believing these lenses will focus faster than Canikon's USM/SWM ultrasonic lenses. If they will, that'd be great, but Pentax never has been faster.

Well, at least it (DC) is better than SDM...

Well Canon 50/1.8 is supposedly USM but really is very noisy micromotor.

This is the lens that I am really interested in. The reach of 450mm is going to be pretty impressive, not only on a full frame, but once cropped will have a 600mm reach on my K5. Price is steep, however if it performs, then it will be worth selling the dog and a couple of cats in order to raise the funds necessary purchase it. I'm assuming that we will receive the necessary firmware for our K5 and newer cameras so that they will be able to take advantage of the features in this lens.
