LOL ... both work out at about £1650 UK pounds

UK price is £2000 .... I would jump at one at either exchange rate.
Mike, you could go in the continental Europe, spend some days relaxing, buy the lens from there - and pay the same

Newtophotos - nope, there are several SDM-only lenses, and all the DC lenses don't support screw drive AF.
After all, the dual focus mechanism was just a stop gap measure for the first years after introducing in-camera SDM support.

No, I will be watching Amazon France and Germany like a hawk ... when the 1.4x converter was released it was a good 20% cheaper on the French site.

Is this the first autofocus lens that can't be screwdriven?
Definitely no.

KAF3 lenses include in particular:

- DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6
- DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6
- DA 17-70mm f/4
- DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 Limited
- DA* 55mm f1.4

and probably others. In short, all recent lenses with a built-in motor.

I'm puzzled why they shot the 180mm and 190mm samples [town overview] at such slow shutter speeds (0.0667 sec - 1/15, and 0.0769 sec -1/13). Obviously they were tripod shots, but still that's a non-optimal shutter speed for telephoto.

I guess they wanted to emphasize IQ, if it is the case, this is logical.

Sure, it means you can run ISO 100 at f8. But there's a big risk of blur.

Not too many people, I suspect, would normally shoot 200mm at 1/15 sec, outside of a studio.

Agreed on the SDM failures, but disagree on DC being great. Sure, for an 18-135 it'll do. But come on, these are expensive lenses. Canikon are putting ring-type ultrasonic motors in them. For this kind of money, Pentax better have an equivalent AF system.
SDM and DC are general names, they don't actually indicate the exact motor that is being used. Hopefully it is a good one in this lens, but naming it DC doesn't really tell you a whole lot.

180mm on a 450mm capable lens is just pointless, anyone buying this will be using it mainly at it's full focal length. The first thing I did when buying my Sigma 50-500mm OS a few years back was try it at 500mm handheld as that's what I got it for.

These shots do nothing to show off the lens or the K-S2 .... Sometimes I really wonder if Pentax/Ricoh want to succeed or they are just happy to keep selling to Pentaxians.

I never understand official samples at 1/13, 1/15 and 1/25 in default JPEG...Did they test Shake Reduction system?
Anyway, even this poor samples says that lens is good optically...

I do wonder how many people will buy this as a landscape lens?

Nice pics, but absolutely useless.

If I wanted it for 200 mm, I'd buy a 60-250 or the new 70-200.

We need tests at all 3 zoom steps (150, 300, 450), at its best (not widest) aperture for IQ, to know if this is really as good as it's price pretends.

It's just too expensive to buy on faith.

True. Looks good edge-to-edge. Hardly any visible softness at the boundaries of the frame.
At least at 180-190mm, and on APS-C.

Yes. I think it will be outstanding in good condition converted from RAW.
