You're welcome !
I sent a message to the guy on fb, asking for the RAWs...

That 150-450 keeps looking better and better. Good colour and detail in those aviation and shipping scenes.

I don't see no zoom, those shots were taken with some quality prime.

Looks like it should focus with the 1.4 TC, unless he was manually focusing it.

Wow !
This lens sure rocks !

What really impresses me is the fact that at the long end (450mm) this lens is nearly as good as the DA*300/4 in IQ, at least from what I am seeing from those pictures.
Then, there are a couple of pictures taken in combination with the new TC: sure looks good, much better than my actual DA*300/ + HD TC.

Of course, most (if not all ?) were taken with the K3 ... will it be just as good with a "lowly" K5 ?

Thanks for having posted those images here .... makes it a lot easier to navigate and find quick references!

Cheers!

The only question in my mind right now is where am I going to find the 3k. My old A-400 needs a rest.

Norm.

If I recall, you were "quoting" prices from Henry's ? Correct me if I am wrong.

Nonetheless, Henry's seems to be one of the "most expensive" Canadian store. I did buy from them though (I had great service, even from distance) but I would guess that this lens might (will be?) less expensive at other Candian stores.

At then end of the day .... still an expensive lens but very tempting !

From the Camera Store.

Pentax HD D FA 140-450 f4.5-5.6 ED DC AW

$2737.37

It is still tempting.

I was thinking of the 560mm, which over a year lost about 20% of its price. so, $2200 a year after release, by then I can come up with the money... that's my current working theory.

I wonder if anyone will buy the 560 at all anymore now that the 150-450 is out? So much shorter, lighter and less expensive at the expense of only 110 mm focal length... (And the 450 seems to give good results with a converter, too)

The 560 gives good results with the converter too. It's more niche than the 150-450 and I'm sure people who are used to long telephotos would prefer it over the zoom.

I'm not sure about that.

I sold my Sigma 500mm f/4.5 APO DG EX in part-exchange for the D FA 150-450mm (among others). And I intend to sell my DA* 300mm f/4.

I believe the new 2 kilogram 150-450mm lens plus the 1.4x Rear Converter will cover what I need much better. Not perfect - but good enough not to carry around a 3 kilogram 500mm and a 1 kilogram 300mm.

That's putting a lot of faith and pressure on the D-Fa 150-450, I hope it really delivers.

It's so frustrating to have to browse through countless threads just to get a glimpse at some crappy subjects.

If i had a choice I'd give the 140-450mm prototype to NormHead, he would have doubled his shutter count by week's end an we'd be treated to much better pictures.
