Thanks, at last some pictures that show what the lens is capable of ... and no doubt with time they will only get better.

2 months until my first air show of the year ... looks like one of these along with a K-3II would be just the job.

Thanks for the files. I am impressed not only by the IQ but the lens+K3 ISO performance- super clean files at ISO 640 on the K3 (It wasn't the case with my legacy Sigma 400/f5.6 telemacro). From a rough comparison I noticed that at ISO 1250 this lens matches the noise performance on my Sigma EX 300/f2.8 at ISO 640-800. In my estimation the lens seems to be 1/3-1/2 stop faster than a similarly spec'd 3rd party lens. (I noticed a similar thing with the DA 20-40 which people consider slow, its high ISO performance almost matched the IQ on the Sigma 18-35 Art.)

This is why consumers pay extra for OEM lenses, kudos to the Ricoh/Pentax engineers for gifting us with such high performing product (can't wait to see the pics from the D-FA*)
.

Side Note: The bird and the bee pic needs to enter a captioning contest ASAP!
Here's mine: Do you feel lucky, well do you, Punk!!!

What about lenses? That was my primary concern. Besides you are assuming over the price of the FF body.
Doubt FF will have any impact on APS-C lens prices. FF is at best 10% of the market. Pentax is firmly entrenched in the APS-C category with a good line up of dedicated lenses. Expecting them to drop in price because a camera is released that cannot use them makes no sense to me. I suppose there might be some impact to the used market, but I would not hold my breath. I am expecting a new flagship APS-C camera to be released not that far out, maybe even as soon as this fall.

And of course I am assuming the price of the FF. But pick your price, D610 seems to be about $1,500, D810 $3,000. I'm guessing someplace in the middle if they bring out one FF body. I think $2,500 is not far off if it is a high end camera. If they have two FF bodies in the works, then who knows?

Hi Shanti

Yes they are all wild birds that come to feeders in my backyard. The most we ever counted was 35 species in one weekend.

Very interesting observation, never thought of it in that way.

Yes and the bee did make a very hasty retreat in the next frame. They do not eat the bees just kill and drop them.

Wow. A little speechless, those are fantastic. I would be proud of any of them. And you are just learning the lens? I cannot wait to see what you do with it with some experience.

I guess my only comment is why on earth would Ricoh release the pictures they did when they could have released pictures like these?
