CAN'T TOUCH IT*
Here are the last of my pictures taken with the 50-500mm OS Sigma before I sold it.

IQ wise I think it can touch it .... but I'm hoping the AF speed is a lot better on the Pentax

Both the 150-450 and the 70-200, feels quicker then any other lense from Pentax. And i have a few! haha

Wow. Fabulous shots and a stunning early example of lens performance.

How do you find IQ and handling relative to DA-560?

To be fair though Pentax don't have that many quick focusing lenses to start with

And before anyone gets arsey with me, I have or have had most modern Pentax lenses over the last few years and some of them are positively glacial. Excellent IQ though so I can forgive the AF speed to a certain extent.

For the price difference...I don't either. I have the Bigma 50-500 and it has been my best lens purchase ever.....including my Pentax Ltds. For the money, what you get is amazing. I'm not as particular as some, I want decent shots that convey a clear message and are of good quality to the 99% that are not pixel peeping perfectionists, and the Bigma can easily deliver that. I hope you are not disappointed by the new lens, and hopefully you won't be.

Conveying a message....If you crack and eat more pecans than your own body weight, you might not be able to move about for a while.

Regards!
Keep those shots coming Rupert. This one is so cute.

Handling is nice a bit heavy. Took a few shots this afternoon again with this and the 560 at distances 10m + and with the TC the 560 is still quite a bit better.

AF with chose DFAs has nothing to do with that you know (with Pentax penses). That I know.

As for rest, other people are more capable than I am.

I can't find anything about this: is the lens hood reversible for storage?

(Looking at the plumage) In terms of micro-contrast I feel the D-Fa is ahead Mike, but that's just my personal opinion. To me it's IQ looks closer to DA 560 or the EX 500/f4.5 shots than any zoom that I've seen so far in terms of performance but we"ll have to wait and see for the official review.

I subscribed to vcolerp flickr album: (I promise this is the last time I do this)
The D-FA 150-450

The DA 560/f5.6

To be honest it's a difficult thing to prove either way, my shots were taken with a k-5IIs and are heavy crops, the 150-450mm pics were taken with a K-3 and had very little cropping from what I could see from the raw files. Saying that my post isn't to attack the Pentax lens (which looks excellent) but more to point out that the Sigma isn't THAT far away and is a viable alternative especially if cost is an issue.

At the moment I am holding off buying the 150-450mm as I do a lot of airshow photography so I want to see shots taken with it on a K-3II that show AF speed/tracking accuracy before I drop the best part of £3k on a camera and lens .... my second option being to upgrade my Canon gear to the 7DII and 100-400mm MKII (but I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that)

You're right of course, I think on the spectrum between 3rd party high performance zoom and the DA 560 its right in the middle, perhaps closer to the 560. People seem to say its better than the DA* 300 + 1.4x (comparison here on this particular shoot-out its outperforming the Sigma EX 500/f4.5) and it should given the price point. Of course given the support on K-mount most lenses the Bigma and the likes are a few years old by now and when compared to latest offerings. Also as you note many lenses tend to perform better on close subject, It will be interesting to see shots on a few distant ones. If the AF is as good as Ricoh (and some early adopters) claim to be then the lens will be a solid competitor to the 100-400MKII. So far the D-FA 150-450 seems to impress.

Chuckle!

I already have the D FA 150-450mm lens. (It arrived on Wednesday). I've pre-ordered the K-3 II. I hope it arrives in time for me to use the combination at the RAF Cosford Airshow on 14th June! I will be going to several UK airshows with this combination over the summer.

I'll try to remember to post about it to these forums.
