It's not just the colour rendition, the D-FA seems considerably sharper.

Here are actuals (resized w/o crop) for your input....You may not see it here but in the origs the mag on the eff 420mm (300 and 1.4x) is greater than the 450mm DFA
That is due to focus breathing, not? My 55-300 has quite a bit, so that it is really only 300mm when focused at inifinity and probably more like 220mm when focused at its closest point. I think primes tend to do it less than zooms.

Stranger things have happened with internal focus and zoom lenses.
The 150-450mm lens has internal focus but not internal zoom. It extends by just over 2.5 inches from 150mm to 450mm.

The 70-200mm lens has internal both.

Indeed. This completely normal.

My DA* 60-250 is about the same as my DA 18-135 at 135mm at 12 feet or less. The really sad thing about that, is if you buy the lens for shooting small birds etc. close up, my A-400 will probably blow it's socks off for magnification.

In my 100 frame analysis, here is a 250mm matchup with our favorite lens... 60-250 Then the 150-450, same distance...

TC probably has some impact. Will do a 300/300mm coming. I tested 7 lenses at a bunch of intersections vs the 150-450. Still processing resizes...

Without some common sense they won't have it for long!

Enough cash left over for a weekend cruise in the Caribbean!

And a 'Shorty" Sample... 135-150mm test... for DFA150-450 vs others...

OK. A real IQ... test 50-135, Sig 120-400, 60-250, and 150-450 at 150mm... Exif on 150-450 says 310mm... image is 150mm. I turned it back to "lock" zoom ring, Dunno...

With respect, Jim, there are folks who have a use for the lens and those who don't. For shooting squirrels and birds at bird feeders, you may not see much improvement, but it does seem that there is some image quality boost for the 150-450 over the Bigma. It is great that you are satisfied with the Bigma, but not everyone is.

Quantifying what a boost in image quality is worth is hard. A DA 35 f2.4 is a cheap lens which can be had for 150-ish, a Sigma 30 f1.4 for 400-ish, and an FA 31 is 1000-ish. I ended up trying each one of these and ended up with the FA 31. The improvement in image quality and rendering of out of focus areas was enough better that I don't regret going with the more expensive lens, but each photographer has to make their own decision about these things.

I Hate EXIF issues... :)

EXIF code passed through K-3 processor to give match in Lightroom is "8 13". Sigma didn't pay attention to what codes they reused in 2013. Chip should send"8 16" for camera to generate right EXIF data seen in LR. Sux... No EXIF for 150-450 DFA in LR yet. In LR ver. 5.7 shows as unknown...

Don't know why, set camera same for all (program). Same filters too... All CPL B+W Nano KSM, except 60-250 is Bresson Top Nano coated.... Same quality....
