Maybe he just wants to play ball with them ?
In that case his exuberant approach and vicious lunges aren't accomplishing their goal.

There is no pandemonium in my backyard quite like when I decide the squirrels are spending too much time at the feeders. I open the back door and yell "squirrel" and out go two border collies and an aussie full tilt. Squirrels will be fleeing all over the place. The funny thing is, Tripper goes after them with a ball in his mouth, and doesn't drop the ball even when he tries to bite them. I'm not really sure how effective that bite would be.
That is so funny. We do exactly the same thing! Our Aussie is named Sage, and you definitely do not want to say "squirrel" unless the door is open. How do they learn so much English?

She usually drops the ball at the door on the way out but sometimes she forgets and then she gets confused.

I love doggies as much as you guys......so be very careful when letting them have a little squirrel chasing fun. Otis is training squirrels worldwide to protect themselves...and enjoy a high protein meal while doing it!

Yikes, I should print this article for my Whippet. Tucker has 7 squirrels, 1 chipmunk, a mouse or two, and an unknown under his belt. Poor critters. He doesn't eat them, just... ends them and carries them around for awhile. The black ones make him look like he has a big mustache. It's like the War Amps around here with squirrels. I don't know if it's Tucker or the cold winters though. We have a 3 legged squirrel and a tail-less squirrel. Both have been around a year or more.

So, for those that don't want squirrels eating the veg garden, any repellent ideas? Sorry it's off the track. Losing the heirlooms. Trying some scent lures....

She prefers rodents shaken not stirred-any Heeler will suffice for heirlooms, especially tomatoes.

Try shaving small strips of Irsih Spring bar soap into your vegetable garden using a carrot peeler. Repels everything!. When it rains, lather, rinse, repeat.

Sounds stupid but it works - even keeps deer out of the Hosta beds.
