Some pics with the lenses

Here https://www.flickr.com/photos/128950781@N08/with/16693775775/ are some shots with both lenses and with the lenses with TK, according to a comment in a German forum the AF works fine with the 1.4 TK onboth lenses.

If somebody already posted the link - sorry!

First time I see it myself, good stuff Angus. The 150-450 @ 150 is definitely prime quality superb. I was impressed with the TC combo of 630mm f8 at the long end, very nice IQ considering it was an overcast day. It looks like an exciting lens for sure

The biggest annual photo show in the country is going on right now in Helsinki. Spent the afternoon there.
Pentax had a decent presence, exhibiting the current range of DSLRs, and most of the lenses and accessories. I was delighted to see the all-new DFA*70-200/2,8 and DFA 150-450 on display. I was told the lenses will be at the distributors very soon. Got to try the 70-200 on the distributors K-3 body.

Initial impressions:
-build quality appears to be very good, in line with the best current lenses
-Quiet AF, focus lock was very precise.Even in dimly lit indoor conditions. Switched the AF range limiter of. Despite my efforts it did not hunt.
-AF speed is of course difficult to judge. However, it did not feel any faster than my FA*80-200/2,8.
-Cannot say anything at all about IQ

Look forward to a more thorough test!

Do you know fast the AF of your FA lens is compared with others such as the DA* 300mm or DA* 60-250mm? I'm hoping that the new lenses will be significantly faster than those.

There hasn't been a firmware update for the new lenses yet. Next time someone looks at one of these, or handles it, take a peek at the menu for firmware numbers and any new features in the focus control section.

The best screwdrive lenses - including the FA*80-200 - focus faster than any of the SDM lenses I have used. Especially with the K-3, which has a stronger motor than earlier bodies.
I am not sure about the AF construction used in the DFA*70-200. It did not say "SDM" anywhere on the lens.

It isn't the old SDM motor. It is called DC, (in both the new lenses), but I haven't a clue what that actually means.

I've read elsewhere that it is faster than the SDM lenses, and that is certainly what I want/need! Which is why I reacted to your comment about AF speed.

Thanks.

Here's an explanation from another poster.

DC Motor

But,what means DC motor?
Nothing.
The motor in the kit lenses are small and only to use in light weight lens systems with short movement.
But there are lots of different types of DC motor.
The ring drive in the Pentax patent was NOT a ultrasonic like canons old type since the 90.
Old school,Nikon is using different types.
Here is a DC drive, looks more like the Pentax patent.

Direct Drive DC Torque Motors | Kollmorgen | Brush DC Electric Motors

Unfortunately, a year too late for me. Sold my K-3 and switched to Canon 1D for sports/action as Pentax lacked the lens focus speed. Miss that K-3, though.

Everyone has their own personal timeline and priorities, nothing wrong with that. The thing is, with the 70-200 patent coming out in 2012, Pentax could have let us know a lot earlier the were designing better , faster focusing lenses. The people watching the patents told us the FF was coming more than a year before Pentax did. But even if they had, if there's something you have to do now, , knowing a company is going to release something next year doesn't help.

Pentax told us the FF is coming since December 2012.
