I forgot to ask in my earlier post: Does this officially mean Pentax isn't doomed any more?

Well, not right when it comes out, I'm gonna be waiting for reviews and actual user experience.

Now if those turn out positive, I'm still not sure. A rule I follow is to never buy the 1st iteration of anything and wait till they get it right in the next product iteration (eg K7-K5/K5II, not that there's anything wrong with the 1st iterations), but it would really really REALLY tempting.

Although since this is a new line of bodies, the product cycle of this would probably be longer/different than the APS-C models, and i guess i'll have to take that into consideration.

I'm thinking the 150-450 and the FF body when It all comes out.

Better sell the house to pay for it all..

I'd be darn shocked if 2001 did a replay and the final version of this FF never made it to the market, with Pentaxians waiting another fourteen years...again =))

Nice! Hopefully the MSRP won't be totally unreasonable and it will support screw drive AF.

A bit surprised with the lens motors. Some Pentax rep said earlier that they will use SDM with higher end lenses and DC with the lower spec'ed ones. I guess that has changed since now we'll have a big ass star lens with the DC motor.

And there's me thinking it was unobtainium.

With regards to EVF being the future, as other posters have postulated, I think it is a future, not the future. I have an Olympus OM-5 and a Panasonic GX7, and while their EVFs are perfectly usable, I don't like them much. To me, it seems like a second-hand view of the scene I'm trying to photograph, and gets in the way of how I'm trying to visualise the end result. Others will doubtless see things differently (pun intended). I sold my OM-1 because I hated the nasty little thing with its tiny sensor (well, maybe that's a bit strong, but I tried to like it and failed spectacularly). I don't think OVFs will ever die away, though cameras with them may well become a minority species. One things for certain, at my age I am quite confident of employing an optical viewing system for the rest of my life.

Oh, and as this thread is about the new full frame, I will be buying it as soon as its available.

In the back of my mind, I share that fear.

But with the release of two new lenses that have been explicitly announced as FF (and are already being listed in stores), not to mention all the hoopla and positive feels the FF announcement has generated around the world, this FF announcement seems real. Ricoh would lose too much face if they pulled the plug on the camera now.

Depends on two things. Whether there is a K-3+ available, and whether the thing is not much bigger than the K-3. Price matters as well.

I want better AF, an iteration similar to the K-5 to K-3. And I want two stops better noise. Both preferably. If someone says that the files are luscious, I won't be able to stop myself.

Neither lens interests me much, unless the long zoom is sharp wide open.

I suspect that Pentax/Ricoh know exactly what I'm thinking and will make me want this stuff. In the worst of all worlds the long zoom will be as sharp as my 500 4.5 Sigma wide open, the full frame body will be slightly bigger than the K-3, have very nice AF and produce extraordinarily beautiful shots. Then what do I do?

BTW... Snesor has to be 50mp to meet APS-c @24mp

So, 36mp won't be enough for Birder res match...

I agree. Ricoh has a lot to lose if they stopped the project anytime soon. the hype, the euphoria this is generating with the userbase to begin with, is astounding.

Also, such impeccably precise timing. Exactly 40 years after the release of the first K-mount cameras.. The KX, KM, and K2.

As asahiman alluded, DC ring motors (like those Pentax has patents for) come in all shapes, sizes and capabilities. The one on the 18-135 may not be the same motor they use for the 70-200, even if they share the same technology.
