Uuurrgh, If those specs are true, they only remake K-S1 with additional Wifi and articulated lcd, and of course WR. K-S2 should have AF from K-3, 24Mpx, and better FPS.
This is not a top level camera, why would Pentax do that? Who would buy the K-3 then

Pentax K-S2: oto najmniejsza lustrzanka na ?wiecie! - Artyku?y - Chip.pl
If those specs are true, it's going to push me towards getting a K-5 IIs for my trip in April. The build quality, quiet shutter, big battery and top LCD of the K-5 are with more to me than the slightly bigger viewfinder, the flip screen and the Wi-Fi of the K-S2. It looks good for an entry level camera though.

Those don't do the camera or the lens any justice IMO

But that's Pentax for you ....

The Idea is, try to compete mid-range dslr with a good number. Prosumers care about how many pixel, how many AF points, how is the FPS, and etc. Look at D5500, or the new EOS T6i, or Sony A6000.
Amid the tough competition, Pentax can't play conservative like this. Still offering technology that has been used 3 years ago. Of course K-3 still hold the advantage in the buffer size, build quality, FPS, and many more. And by the time K-3 need replacement, there should be better tech and innovation like better AF, sensor shift, etc.
It looks to me K-S2 is what K-S1 should be, and that is pity.

The S-line isn't aimed at traditional DSLR users ... it's trying to grow the market by aiming at people wanting more from their pictures than their phones or P&Ses do.

The products must be more distinctive than the entry level Canikons, because they are mass produced and will win on price.

I found them sharp enough at web size, a lot more than usual samples.
Didn't take time to look more carefully though.

It has a new 20mp sensor, focus peaking (PRIME MII), WiFi, flippy screen, WR body, new compact/silent AF/WR/retractable kit zoom--but yeah, no new tech other than that.

Well the images are 5.472px 3.648px, that is 20MP if i am not mistaken...
Indeed. K-S2 having a 20 Mpix sensor is therefore confirmed.

We should be rather happy about that, the sensor on the K-S1 seems one of its strong points. Furthermore this implies a rather affordable camera, priced way below the K-3. I hope there are some interesting features that make it special, maybe the re-introduction of video SR (the flippy screen might suggest video capabilities as a strong selling point ? ). I also hope some missing features on the K-S1 are back, like the electronic level, or the little known sensor-shift composition adjustment that the K-50 had.

I'm not convinced that really the S stands for special and that this line will be run in parallel with a more traditional SLR line, in which we should expect a "true" K-50 replacement... this one has nothing unconventional. Probably it's just a change in the naming scheme, maybe the K-3 successor will be called the K-S3

If the street price will be on the same level of the current K-S1 pricing (overpriced in my opinion), then i'll buy this K-S2, with its new compact kit lens which is a welcom addition for me as i don't have a single WR lens right now.

Does it mean that K-S1 will be discontinued soon?

It has not yet been officially announced with full specs, so either someone would be guessing or they would be breaking an NDA.

Edit: the specs above linked by beachgardener are the first I've seen, and they're not from Pentax HQ. We'll know everything soon enough.

According to Kenspo it is not a replacement for the K-S1.
