Quick question : will this sensor have 12-bit per channel color depth or 14-bit? Anyone know?

There is so much in common with the K-S1, I would be surprised if it's 14-bit. But I've been surprised before (and I didn't like it) (insert picture of Grumpy Cat ).

EDIT: Just read specs: It's 12 bit.

Pentax has traditionally reserved 14-bit for their flagships, at least for the K-5, K-5II and K-3. Most likely it will be 12-bit.

Not only that, but since it shares the K-S1's processor Prime M II yeah the K-S2 will most likely be 12-bit

I believe there is a market for traditional entry level DSLRs, such as the K-30 and K-50. Yes, they have some design to them, but the K-S1 goes far beyond that.

What confuses matters is that the K-S2 is so... "conventional". I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
But over in the "let's talk about names" thread, you asked me what was so confusing about the S designation...

Ah. Well, the designation itself makes sense. What makes less sense is why they used the name on the K-S2... does it mean that a proper K-50 successor is still to come? It has to, unless they have changed their mind about what the K-S stands for.

Agreed. I think the K-S2 is definitely the K-50 successor. I mean, what beyond bland styling could they add to it and not step on the K-3's toes?

Who knows...I just think that every time there's a new guy/girl in the marketing dept, they feel the need to make their mark with some adjustment or other.

You can't see nothing... hmm... that means you're seeing something, right? Those double negations (and in each language they work differently! )

My guess is PRIME Mii with 20 megapixel sensor in 12-bit RAW. That is currently the thing Pentax is running on the lower end body's. This only would need an update if 4K video is incorporated, but I don't see that happening for the K-S2.

I hope they did some refinements to video capabilities too, at least to be like those found in OM-D EM-5mark2 and focus peaking during recording and aperture control during recording.

better video codec would be great. And hopefully the HDMI port is of a kind that lets output video signal to external recorder, would be extremely awesome if 4K 422 similar to how it is done on Sony A7s.
Also these days DSLRs has 1080p 60fps too. All I-frame would be very welcome.
I know many Pentaxians hate video stuff, but it is the age when it is something expected in a DSLR.
I would rather buy a Pentax camera body to use Pentax lenses rather then invest in adapters and spend money else where like GH4 or NX1, want to support Ricoh/Pentax... and it seems Ricoh Pentax might have looked partially into it, swivel screen, Mic in port, HDMI port.... Hopefully new DSLRS FROM Ricoh Pentax will finally connect both still and motion imaging artists. I still can't forget the awesome marketing campaign of K-7. Those videos were gorgeous.
