Anything with two control dials and the mode dial on top is descended as much from K-50 as K-S1. K-S1 sensor, no doubt, but otherwise this is really the K-50ii with articulating screen and wi-fi. It's the K-50 / K-S1 mashup! Interesting new lens, too.

Nice.
Though I can't say I like the racing stripes on the flash housing.
Reminiscent of the HK Holden Monaro Racing Stripe from the early 70's. This comment is relevant only to Australian males of a certain vintage.

Pentax should have skipped the K-S1 and just launched this instead.

The new naming convention makes sense, though.

Sad. Poignant, but sad.

Well this looks respectable... I mean I heard the S1 was actually a decent camera but I didn't even bother checking its specs since there's 0 chance I'd buy that hideous looking wannabe Christmas decoration... (personal opinion)

Yes I thought so. I even thought it was going to be the K-S10 and probably the K-3 replacement to be K-s100. But who knows, how they name new cameras. The important thing is they give us great performing dependable cameras.

Does anybody know if this will have a battery grip option?

So, if this is the K-50 replacement, why would they call it a "special"?
[a] Who said it was a replacement for the K-50?
[b] Is that a rhetorical question?

Look, in an interview after the QS-1 release the RICOH suits said the 'S' in stood for 'special'.. That they have continued the naming trend means that the suits like it

So no flashy LED on front grip? This looks promising.

I wonder if K-3 replacement will be announced soon, too... I hope!

I applaud their return to Stormtrooper white-on-black; the grey grip on the K-s1 was not right at all

Because of its bad low light capability, i hope Pentax will not choose the 20MP sensor inside the K-S2.
My main complain about K-S1 was the horrific result @ 6400 iso.
If they want to use the old line-up of Pentax (K30, K5,K50), it's necessary to choose the K3 sensor to play on the semi-pro area of digital cameras.

I'm hoping that successor of K-3'll be released in 2 year cycle... K-3 was released in 2013 november, so this might be a year they'd release or at least announce... but if Ricoh chooses to go all in with FF first, I'm fine with that, too.
