KS-3 should replace the K-3 !!!
What will you call the second K-50 replacement then? The one after the K-S2?

S was meant to be special, so cameras outside of the regular K lines.

I could imagine something like: K-M1 for the next K-50 (medium, mainstream, ...), then K-P1 for the next K-3 (pro) or dig in the Pentax history, what letter they gave their higher end cameras), and K-F1 for the full frame. From then on they can just number the cameras, and they can go on forever.

Am I the only person here who, if this is the K-50 replacement, doesn't like it? It is a great improvement over the K-S1, but as a K-50 replacement as well...

I sort of feel the K-30/K-50 were more serious, well designed bodies for beginners,amateurs,semi-goodphotogs, good photogs, really good photogs... this looks so much more consumer oriented. The K-50 fit everything.

I mean... I like the new tech they are adding to the camera... just not the body design, everything is more cramped. (But I can't argue the black/white looks cool!)

WI-Fi and flip-out screen are must haves on con-/prosumer cameras. This camera will be competing with the likes of d5500 and 700d. Weather-sealing, if it has it, could well tip the scale in its favour. This looks like a great APS-c camera; well done, Ricoh.

Yes, this is definitely the camera K-S1 should have been. But, on the other hand, for those who don't need flip-out screen and Wi-Fi, the K-S1 is still a fine camera. Personally, I have never missed a flip-out screen, but the lack of WiFi certainly was beginning to get to me, especially after I acquired a tablet.

Agree on that, but I don't think the K-3 upgrade will be the K-3 anything anymore......I think they will make it a K-S something. I hope they decide and keep it consistent regardless. Reminds me of how Canon uses like 3 different names for the same camera. At least when I see a Pentax moving up, it will make logical sense.

Pentax should have skipped the K-S1 and just launched this instead.

The new naming convention makes sense, though.

Hell yes! Want!

I love the K-30 that I have currently. It's white and I love the sharp, angular design. I'm a little nervous about how boxy this one is, but I bet I'll change my mind once it's in my hands. ^_^

Flippy screen FTW!

I don't know about that screen. It looks a bit cramped and doesn't look like a touch screen.

Does it have -3ev af and speed like the k5iis or k3 too?

Those together with the swivel and wifi would be a winner

It'seem peoples do not remember what Pentax said about the new S line

This line is mainly dedicated to a new group of consumer who are coming from the Iphone , tablet

Here exactly what Pentax Management have said
QuoteQuote:
#2. What is the design philosophy behind the Pentax K-S1 interface, and what are its features?

We meant the K-S1 as the start of a new lineup as part of an innovation line. For this we wanted to create a new user interface which could be easily adapted by gadget-oriented people, such as smartphone users. The new user interface can tell you what is the mode of operation and better communicates between the device and the user.
And now regarding |1 , 2, 3 again this will be different then what we know today

#3. Is there a special significance to the "1" or the "S" in the name of the Q-S1, K-S1, WG-M1, XG-1?

The S stands for “super” or “superior”; something special. The “1” is of course means that this is the first product in the innovation line.
Hope this clear the air about name convention. Reading this mean the K-3 replacement should not be a S series.
And here the source in Pentax Forum

This is a kit lens , cost is the primary factor.

Compared to the k-50 you can see there is not a lot of room for shrinkage. (centered on the mount)

In my opinion this looks terrific, the black shutter release button surrounded by the green led is a nice touch. If the interiors are as promising as the looks suggest, this will be the replacement for my k200D.

Shall we expect an official press release with tech specs (before CP+ i mean) ? In the case of the DFA lenses, leaks on that website were shortly followed by an official announcement...

Since the LCD screen (at least on the prototypes) swings out and reverses then perhaps some sort of count down display can be shown on screen.

I've been looking to thin the herd, sell my K-5 and K-01 to be replaced with a ? ?
Strongly considered the K-S1, almost pulled the trigger on a $400 new K-50 yesterday.
Glad I waited, I really like what I'm seeing here!
