Looks like a new WG camera is coming too.

---------- Post added 02-07-15 at 01:14 PM ----------

And also there will be a separate HD version of the kit lens! I might be interested in that.
A new WG?! Those things come out every 4 months, it seems...

I hope hope hope that 18-50 is sold separately! I would preorder that instantly.

That's definitely more likely. Curious that the K-s2 is that much larger than the s1, that was a strong point for me despite the interface mysteries.

Now that you mention it, here's a comparison of K-S1 and K-S2 (S1-green, S2-red, again front view scaled to K-mount and back and top scaled to match front view). The K-S2 is a little wider on the left side, as well as being taller and thicker (both in main body and grip). The pentaprism housing is very similar, but with a slightly steeper angle on the top front edge of the K-S2. The K-S1 also tends to have corners trimmed back, making it smaller in volume than the max dimensions indicate.

I thought that other "Unnamed K camera" with the floppy screen was the K-50 replacement?

These scale models indicate it's much more a k50 than a ks1 so those who must have a k50 clone can likely r.e.l.a.x!

Now that is a nice design. Why didn't they just release this in the first place instead of the cringeworthy Ks-1?

I'm guessing these two cameras were developed in parallel. The K-S1 is for people who want to get good pictures with minimal user intervention. The K-S2 is an affordable camera for enthusiasts.

According to some, the former category no longer exists in the USA and some other countries. In that case, perhaps Ricoh should have done what Canon does and made it an Asia-only model. I certainly think there's a market for both in Japan, at least.

Yes it is but it's a slightly different lens, including optically.

The kit lens is the 'smc PENTAX-DA L 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE' whilst the lens sold separately is the 'HD PENTAX-DA 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE', thus with HD coating instead of SMC.

Indeed. But if you're feeling brave you can go looking for it - it features quite prominently in the K-3 section

To me it looks like the K-S line is where Ricoh tries out new ideas. The K-S1 is definitely not for me, but I like the concept. The K-S2 looks more traditional on the outside, but I'm not sure we've seen everything about that one yet...

Still no official release...any unofficial anticipation on the sensor ? It is logical to assume it has the same 20MP sensor of the K-S1...but what if it has the 24MP from the K-3 instead ? :P
But i think it's very unlikely....
