It's not illogical at all.

It will be nice to see how good, or bad, this lens turns out to be.
Guess speculators have to speculate, one way or the other.

Shame about the bokeh (bottom right corner) Can't win them all, I suppose ...

Funnily, if you go to the same page now, that image isn't there anymore

I would say it's not bad bokeh for cheap slow zoom. Nervous a bit. But no criminal.

Agreed. Discussing the bokeh quality of kit lens? Really?

I can get worse bokeh out of the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 - also, there seems to be a bit of uncorrected spherical aberration going on there which could be ...interesting.

I think bokeh is good for a kit lens... Not related to the lens itself, for ISO 800 this looks just fine.

The photo above looks very promising about the high-iso capabilities of the camera, and i love the unusual subject they have chosen.
In a set of sample images one maybe expects a photo of the Eiffel tower or some famous monument or landmark, instead pentax provides us with an echidna

There are some more samples for the HD version of the 18-50 on its official product page too

It's just marginal note. By the way, 7 blades aperture is better than 6 blades.

I was commenting on previous posts. Image in my post was about the ISO. I'm aware it's a different lens, I should have posted it in another thread. Admin can move it if necessary

'Unusual subject' is, well, subjective.
I see these little fella's quite often around here, and the shot of the fern tree gully and creek look like it could have been taken a couple of km's from my house.

It looks to me like the Japanese engineer who took the test shots was on a holiday in Oz.

Interesting kit lens. I hope it's a winner for Pentax. They are really kicking some goals at the moment.

I guess we nave to wait for the people who preordered the K-S2 for some actual opinions on this new lens...

Looking at the schemes in http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/support/catalog/pdf/lenses_accessories.pdf , optically the lens shouldn't be a big surprise; I wonder if focal length and aperture were changed just to distinguish it when searching for it on google
Let's keep our fingers crossed that the lens is well built and rather sturdy, with the splash resistance this would make a cool travel lens, especially when paired with some fast small prime.
