Kit lens with HD coating and silent DC focus motor? Can't wait to see some sample photos. About time to replace the 18-55 kit

Well, they had to up their game to the level of others. The miniscule size looks like a winner!

if it is the new kit zoom for future Pentax cameras then it means Pentax is still hanging onto its small form factor design.

Not exactly the kit lens as this version is the stand-alone version and is called a "Standard Zoon". The one in the kit is a DA-L and it has slightly different specs.

My guess is that Pentax will sell these as an "improved kit" like Canon been doing with multiple kit choices.

Am I reading this right? There's a SMC-coated DAL version and a HD DA version?

Yes there is. The SMC version is the Kit lens, the HD version is sold separately. (But i'm sure there will be kit's with it).

I'm really looking forward to the tests and price but this looks like it will be an excellent compact addition to my kit! A modern-day F 35-70? Hopefully the optical performance is close...

This must be one of the most important Pentax lens released in many years.
But most importantly, it's a HD lens with green ring!
