Excellent news!

As you can see, the K-3 AF sensor chip was designed to support a specific AF point array and AF coverage profile. Coverage on the right and left edge of the frame isn't extensive, however, and there are probably not enough horizontal and vertical sensor strips to offer support for the kind of AF system Pentax might want on a high-end FF.
Simply to illustrate what the AF on a Pentax FF might look like, the Canon 5D3 AF sensor (which looks a lot like the 1Dx and 7D2 AF sensor) supports lots more than 27 AF points and has a very different pattern and coverage profile compared to the K-3 AF chip.
As the 645Z diagram illustrates, by simply directly inserting the K-3 AF to a larger format you may end up with a very small AF coverage. With all this talk of a new AF system, AF patents etc, it sounds like Pentax dont want that.
